My greatgrandfather was the only one of his siblings who did not immigrant to the US. He took over the family farm.
I have been trying to find decendents of his brothers and sisters but to no avail. Our family has a lot of letters that were sent from the US from the end of the 1880s until the 1930s when the last Norwegian writter died.
Here is the information I have.
They came from Ovedal (Ovedahl) looked in Bakke, Vest Agder, It is now part of Sirdal.
My great grandfather: Osmund Atlakson Ovedal 07.20.1821 - 10.31.1898 married 6.27.1882 to Berte Tonette Larsdtr. Haughom 2.8.1850 - 11.11.1937.
Sara Atlagsdtr. 2.4.1823, Immigrated to the US 1868, lived in Coon Prairie, Wisconsin.
Sigbjørn Atlakson, 4.1.1825, lived in Coon Prairie Wisconsin.
Reinert Andreas Atlakson, 6.1.1827 immigrated to the US in 1852.
Bernt Andreas Atlakson, 9.25.1831 - 10.23.1870, was married to Tonette Atlaksdtr. Guddal. Lived in Fairmont Minnesota.
Sivert Atlakson, 1.21.1834 - 8.18.1872. Served in the Civil War and was killed by lightning. Lived in Fairmont Minnesota.
Siri Atlaksdtr. 11.21.1835. Immigrated to the US in 1865. Used the name Siri Allikson. Lived in Springville Wisconsin and later in Westby Wisconsin.
Rakel Tonette Atlaksdtr. 8.8.1841. Immigrated to the US in 1865. Was married in the US 6.6.1874 to Jon Torkelson Rannestad (also from Bakke). They lived in Wilmar Minnesota.
Their parents were:
Atlak Osmundson Ovedal baptized 7.5.1789, died 5.6.1852. He served during the 7 year war from 1807 - 1814. His wife was Barbro Sigbjørnsdtr. øvre Sandsmark. Baptized 8.20.1797 died 5.3.1842.
