Vickie is right. I live in Haugesund myself... (I'm not originally from around here, though, so I do _not_ know all about the history about the places around here, haha). Skudenes/Karmøy is just outside Haugesund. He is born at Langaker farm, in Skudenes, and Skudenes is located at Karmøy (øy = island). (At least today it is a part of what's called Karmøy... Vickie explained the merging part, so I won't go into that.)

Here Hans Svendsen is baptist, number 26, father: Svend Jacobsen ("son of Jacob") Langaker (farm), mother: Anne Marie Hansdatter ("daughter of Hans"). His "sponsors" are mostly from Langaker (...look at page 2 - to the right - for sponsors).
