More information must be available in US records that would help locate him in Norway.
The 1900 and 1910 US censuses list him as born Jan 1846 in Norway and immigrating to the states approximately 1876 or 1877 and probably already married before he left Norway. A 1943 Chicago death record for a daughter (Jennie) lists her father's birthplace as "Eleberum, Norway". (Source: the free databases of Familysearch.org)
The emigrant register for the city/port of Oslo/Kristiania lists a Henrik Krogh (30 yr old baker born in Elverum) and his wife "Juliane" leaving there on or about 29 Sept 1876.http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbas...http://home.online.no/~otjoerge/files/word.htm
Elverum is a parish/clerical district in Hedmark, Norway.
Henrik's birth is shown as record #29 in 1846 Elverum church books.http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=8894&i...
It shows that he was born out of wedlock to Johan Christian Krogh and Ragnhild Amundsdtr (sp?).
Good information about translating the formats of Norwegian parish church records during various time periods, many of the basic terms used and understanding how to use the information should be studied at this web site -http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/na20.html
But you asked about his DEATH... That would be in US records wouldn't it? Not Norway.
