My Great, Great Grandfather was Johan Hansen, later called Johan Vastrand of Alesund. Johan was born 1839 in Borgunds Prgj. (not sure what "Prgj" means). He married Magnild (Magnhild) Knudsdatter, Magnild was born 1832 in Gryttens Prgj. Johan & Magnild had three children; Herman (my Great Grandfather), Ragna and Johanna. They all lived in Alesund at 311 Buholmstrand. I don't know when Johan & Magnild died, or where, nor do I know who their parents were. Johan's occupation was "Huseier og Bryggearbeider" according to the 1875 census, I have no idea what that is if anyone can help.

Great Grandfather Herman moved to New York in 1885 and changed his name from Vastrand to Johansen. He became a US citizen in 1888, married Jennie Paulene Andersen of Grimstad (Jennie was born in 1865) in 1888. Herman died in Brooklyn, NY on November 6, 1929. Jennie died January 17, 1935.
