Need help to locate Martin Klausen

Surnames: Klausen, Clausen
Hey! I am trying to locate the whereabouts of a relative of mine with the name Martin Ferdinand Klausen from Bø, Nordland, Norway. He is probably most referred to as Martin Clausen.
Some data about him: He was born August 20. 1898 in Gåsland, Bø (Bo), Norway. I have found out that he was a sailor, and he probably died in America, but that is not for certain. I have found a record from the harbor of New York where he on January 19. 1931 was registered as a part of the crew on the ship SS Canadian Commander. His position is registered as "distressed british seaman". That status puzzles me, because I do not understand what it means, so any suggestions would be very welcome.
He had one special feature, and that was his height. He was 6 feet 8 inches (208 cm) tall, so that is an important clue to identify him in the records. In the record mentioned above he also was registered with a weight of 160 lbs.

I hope somebody can help me with clues to where I may find him registered, because I am very curious about his fate. I have really struggled to find him, so I am running out of options.

Thank you in advance!

Regards
Jan Roger Olsen, Norway
