I am searching for records for Kungsholmen beginning 1896. My great grandfather, Karl Emil Hjelte, was living there and I am trying to trace his journey around Stockholm.
I know that he came into Kungsholmen 12/1896 (from Rote's Archives information) from "outside of Stockholm core." He lived on Pontonierbataljon 2-dra Kompani -- and he seems to be attached in some way to the O. Svea Ingeniorbataljon. He was only about 18 during this time.
I also know he was born in Ortomta, Ostergotland in 1878. But I lose track of him and his family after they move to St. Lars, Ost. in about 1884. So I would like to see from where Karl came before he entered Stockholm (and Kungsholmen).
The records on Ancestry for Kungsholmen that would pertain (Household Exam., Moving in and Moving out) do not go past about 1892, which is 4 years before he's even in Stockholm. Is there another place I could search for those records 1896+? Or did the parish name change at that time? Meaning, are those records extant, but filed under a different parish jurisdiction?
Thank you for your time in reading this...and for any suggestions you may have. I'd love to discover exactly how Karl was involved with the military/navy and, importantly, what happened to the family he left behind. Thank you again...
