Elizabeth Reed (1786-1863). According to the NL (Newfoundland) Gen Web 1812- 1824 records, Richard’s sister Elizabeth Reed married Alexander Bowcher a Scottish notary public and auctioneer in Newfoundland. She was widowed in 1816, then married James Fergus, also a native Scot in 1817(see Jane Reed below). Elizabeth had a daughter Eliza Bowcher by her first marriage. Elizabeth died age 77 in 1863.This Elizabeth Reed is not to be confused with other Elizabeths, including her own mother and two other Reeds named Elizabeth, who were the sister and the daughter of George Reed.George was probably the brother of Richard Reed Snr(see below)
Dr Thomas Boucher Reed was also my 3x great grandfather. I have a copy of Dr Reed's will, dated and signed March 24 1863. He he was dead by late 1864 when his daughter was married( record online) in British Guiana.. A posting on GENI website states that Richard Reed was the brother Mary Mac Braire Reed(1800-1880), who was married to James Miller Ewing(1797-1877) , in Newfoundland.Mary, Elizabeth Reed Bowcher Fergus and Dr Reed are mentioned among several siblings of Richard Reed Jnr in his will, available online. The GENI posting also states that Richard Reed Snr and Elizabeth Reed (Snr) are were parents of Mary MacBraire Reed and Richard Reed (Jnr). Richard Reed (Snr) was a Scottish merchant in St Johns Newfoundland in 1791 ( available by googling him for the record of a court case involving him).He and his wife Elizabeth Reed (Snr) operated Friendly Hall farm in St Johns Newfoundland, before 1810(Robert Mackinnon , "Farming the Rock" and Richard Pedley's "History of Newfoundland",both available online). Dr Reed may also have been born in Newfoundland or possibly Scotland, but I have no definite info on this. If you have additional info please let me know.
