One of my ancestors, John Hilton Jackson, was employed in Suriname in the early 19th century, as a manager of a coffee plantation there. He was born in Amsterdam in 1821 to English parents (Thomas Jackson and Hannah Leonard). In Suriname he married Sarah Anna Heilbron. Later he became a district commissioner for the Paramaribo district where he is buried.
