Dear Alfons Cuppens,
Thank you for correcting me with the correct spelling and names of Enghien and Soignies.
I am searching for information (DOB and to whom he married) on the father of my GG Grandfather who was Lt.Col.Charles Hamilton Smith who was born in Enghien, the then Austrian province of Flanders(according to old family notes) and had changed his name from Smet to Smith. The family had apparently lived there since 1392. His brother was John Francis Smet, an army Doctor. I would like also to find his date of birth and am assuming he was also born in Enghien or Edingen. They both ended their lives in Plymouth, UK.
Would you be able to tell me the best resources to find any of this information.
Withy many thanks, Joanne.
