Hello, my father is Marcel Verspelt. I have had luck finding relatives in Belgium by the last name Verspeelt. I have not had luck finding his Mother's relatives. Her last name was Gryp. They came here in 1893 to start a new life. Several months later her Mother, Melanie, died after her clothing caught fire. My Grandmother's name was Marie Louise Gryp. After the fire her father returned to Belgium with the children and they were raised by their grandparent. I know them only by the names Pechan and Mechan Gryp. My grandmother came again to America with her husband. They too returned to Belgium but came back. My father was born here in South Bend, Indiana. He had a brother Leon that died in an auto accident in 1934. His father Theophiel died in 1936. My father is 89 and would love to know if he still has family in Oosteeklo, Belgium. He lived there for several years and can still remember some of the town. My grandmother also had a sister Mathilda, a brother Honore and a Araman that died several weeks before his Mother died. I have pictures and obituaries. Some are in Flemish and I cannot read or speak the language. My father is in a nursing home after two strokes two years ago and doesn't remember the language very well. He can talk and remembers things that happened years ago but not something that happens perhaps half an hour after you have visited him. He would be overjoyed along with myself if you could help us.
