Looking for some desperately needed help in locating the exact birth date and parent's of my great-grandfather William Cavin, who was born in Lille en Flandre around 1856. I have a copy of the 1881 census from England showing him married to Elsie Proctor Cavin and having three children. Two of their three children at that time were born in Scotland and the the other in England.

Any help or guidance you can give me would be great!

seeking info on Pierre Cousin (1710 to 1745)

I'm attempting to confirm a bit of family folklore. The story goes that our illustrious ancestor Pierre was originally from Flanders, went to Canada, then left for the colony of Louisiana after a run-in with the law. The info I have for him is that he was born around 1710 in Flanders, married Marie Renard in New Orleans in April of 1740, and died in New Orleans in 1745. His parents were Antoine Cousin (b. 1684) and Marie Dufret (b. 1688).

I'd really like to be pointed toward some actual paperwork on this one to settle the accuracy of the family history. Any help would be appreciated.

De Munck family from Beveren - Sheree Guth?

My name is Jan Smet (born 21/07/1965) and I’m the eldest son of Greta Van de Velde (born 18/07/1942), whos is the eldest daughter of Maria Van Audekerke (born 29/10/1920), my grandmother.
My grandmother is the only daughter of Maria Eugenie De Munck (born 23/12/1895 – died 20/02/1980)
I’m in search of Sheree Guth, Wisconsin (or her family), who is a daughter of Eugenie De Muncks younger sister Alphonsine Catharina De Munck (born 21/02/1904). In 1998 Sheree Guth was searching for information about her mother’s family, and especially about Maria Eugenie, my great-great-grandmother. Can somebody tell me about Sheree, Sheree’s mother Alphonsine Catharina? Eugenie was the only daughter of Frederik Fideel De Munck and Maria Ludovica Speeck.
She married to Alfons Van Audekerke (born 19/04/1894 – died 27/12/1975), who was one of my best friends when I was 10 years old: I played every day card games with him, and he told me a lot about the First World War.

I can tell that letters during the fifties my mother Greta Van de Velde wrote to this family to Mable De Munck who married to Klos, 1041 El Camino Real North in Salinas, California, and who was another sister of Maria Eugenie, such as Petrus (Piere, Louis, Joe), Alphonsine Catharina and Mary. There was already a child before the marriage of Frederik Fideel De Munck and Marie Ludovica Speeck, called Maria Sylvia Speeck (born 28/10/1894 – died 18/10/1931).

Does anybody know something about Mable’s children Richard, Robert or Jeanet Klos?
VanderHus, Wanderer

My maiden name of Wanderer originated in the surname VanderHus. Because of the religious controversy surrounding Johan Hus in the 1400s, at least one family (they were weavers) changed the name to Wanderer & Wander & eventually migrated to Germany & Bohemia, where they married into a family of glass blowers & painters. I am wondering if the name VanderHus exists at all today or did it just cease to exist once the name change began? I appreciate any information on this. You can contact me directly at judypetersen@hotmail.com. Thank you.
Judy Wanderer Petersen

I am researching Alphonse Joseph DeGeeter who came to America in 1885 from Flanders. His father was Bruno DeGeeter.

Family lore is that they came from the town of Vitkerke. I can't find it on a map, although I find several towns in West Flanders all ending in kerke. I question if the town name is right. Can anyone translate what "vit kerke" means in Flemish?

Hello there, re my previous post, would anyone have any ideas where I could look for this family ? Various of the connections are to "de lens". I don't know anything about how to search records abroad. I did try to post on the Belgium roots list, but is this now defunct. as I got my e mail back as undeliverable. This list sounded good as it covered various families from Flanders who had settled in Scotland and other countries.
I'd appreciate any hints and clues.
Thanks very much
Jackie Nicholson

I am anxious to trace information about my MINNAERT roots.

I would love to know more about my great-grandfather ACHILLE MINNAERT and his family.

I know his birth and death date and that he was a music teacher and a pianist. He and his family were in Canada and the United States probably between 1910-1930.

I gather the attached is a funeral notice. Besides the dates and the names of his children and their spouses, I cannot tell what the rest says.

I would appreciate it very much if someone could translate.
and of course, if anyone can help provide other details about
this family!

Thank you.

Corinne (Minnaert) Postnikoff,
Castlegar, British Columbia, Canada

My ancestor is listed in the de meuron Regiment paylists of 1809 as JEAN VANEXHEIM. He appears to have been a captured Napoleonic soldier and had been a butcher in Ypres before joining the de Meurons. He came to Canada and married Anne Glascott (she was Irish and arrived here in 1819 aboard the barque Thomas) and lived near Perth, Ontario. Trouble is - I can find record of Anne and her family but I cannot find record of Jean (John) anywhere after the land grant for Perth in 1816. He sold that immediately. I have no marriage record for Anne and John and no death for John. They had 2 children - John and Lucinda. Lucinda died as a child.

I am looking for information on:

* lists of captured soldiers from Napoleon's army and where they were captured

* any information at all on the earliest marriages in Perth Ontario - before 1824.

* anything at all on a possible Vanexheim family connection in Belgium (the family is now known as vanExan but has been called Vanessin, Vanuxem

ANN
van outrive/van autreve

I am interested in families with the above names (I think autreve may be an English mistype) but I do know that the family came from around the French/Belgian Border.

There are still some family in belgium, all I know is that they run a bar or cafe somewhere around the Brugge area.

My interest in the family is that my Great Great Grandfather Jules George Lowe is apparently the connection to Belgium in some way. He was born in England in about 1855 possibly in York or that area, his wife was Rebecca Packard, born in Suffolk in 1862. I have traced the Packard family but it is the Lowe family and the links to Belgium that I am trying to trace now.

If this means anything to anyone please get in touch with me.

WAFLAR surname in Andalusia (Spain)

I'm looking for information about WAFLAR surname. There are some people with this surname in the provinces of Huelva, Cádiz and Seville (Andalusia, Spain). I'd like to know where is it from, since I supose this isn't a spanish surname.
My ancestors were:
MANUEL SANCHEZ-TOSCANO WAFLAR (my mother grandfather), born in Niebla (Huelva) circa 1886. Dead in Puerto Real (Cádiz) on 1936. His brothers: Francisco, José Luis, Elisa, Margarita, Aurora, Rómulo y Remo.
They were all children of:
ELISA WAFLAR JIMÉNEZ, born in Niebla (Huelva) circa 1850 and dead in Ronda (Málaga) circa 1935.
Any help would be very grateful.
Greetings.

surname De LANGHE

I am searching for anyone with information regarding my maiden name De LANGHE. My great-grandfather, Julius A. (Amule) De Langhe (born 8-1-1870, died 1945) arrived in the U.S. approx. 1890-1892 (20-22 years old) from Brugge(?), Belgium. We believe he was a sailor with a company that transported Belgian horses to the U.S.A., the ship he was on last supposedly wrecked & he ended up staying in this country (we're assuming the co. bankrupted). I'm told he also ran away from home so that might have been a good reason why he stayed here as well.

In Belgium, I believe there were 12-13 children in his family: Charles, Julius (and/or Jules), Louis, Joseph, Eugenice, Leona, Mathilds (or Mathilda), Emerance, Rosalie, Silvia, Edward & August (not sure of this one). His mother & father were Louise & Louis (we believe they were farmers and/or butchers).

I would love any information you have regarding this family name - possibly you are related through one of his sister's or brother's???? Please email me! I've got a penpal in Belgium that is doing some searching for me too! My great-grandfather didn't speak much of his life in Belgium & he passed away when I was 9 years old - unfortunately I was not old enough to have much interest in genealogy then...what I wouldn't give to speak to him now!!

Thanking you in advance for any information you can share!!!

Kelley (De Langhe) Hall

I'm looking for relatives from Belgium. My Great grandfather Alidor Alphonse Lefere came to the U.S. in 1907 w/ his brother Henry Vincent. They both married Mestdaghs. I have found all of their descendents in the U.S. but I'd like to track the name further back and extend the tree to include the Lefere's that remained in Belgium. Alidor's father I believe was Petrus. Thanks
Searching--VAN MASSENHOVE and GEVAERT

I have just starting researching my ancestry. I am in search of any information anyone may have regarding my ancestors. This is what I know:
Grandparents:
August VAN MASSENHOVE (born: Jan 12, 1884)
and
Adronie (GEVAERT) (born March 4, 1886)

I was told they were married in Ichtegem, Belgium on October 29, 1910.

My Aunt Mary was born June 6, 1913, somewhere in Belgium.

I am fairly certain, from the Ship "Cardiganshire" Manifest, that my grandfather was a crew member on it and departed London and arrived NY on September 19, 1917, but I can not find whether my Grandmother came over on that same ship or at a different time.

I would appreciate it if anyone can steer me in the right direction on how to go about doing research and ANY information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Leann Herrman

Verstringhe

My GGGrandfather and GGGrandmother came to the United States from Belgium. Their names were Camiel and Elena (Broet) Verstringhe. This was changed to Verstringer when they came to America. One of their daughters remained in Belgium and we were told she never married. Another of their daughters was my grandmother, Pauline Verstringer. If anyone has any information on this family, I would love to hear about it.

Landreth name in Flanders 1070?

I am looking for information on the Landreth History around 1070 or whenever. I have found a city in France called Landrethun-Le-Nord. Are there any other last names similar to Landreth in your region now or historically? Some researchers say they came to Scotland in 1070 to be goldsmiths and textile merchants to the King of Scotland. I am descended from this group of Landreths. Just wanting to know more. Thanks!
