Hello,
My great grandmother's maiden name is Lecent/LeCent. She was born in Queens, New York in 1866 and her father was listed as being from Belgium in his naturalization records. I have been searching for that last name in Belgium for years but I can't find any present day people named Lecent/LeCent.
My feeling now is some how the spelling of the name was changed but I'm not sure what it would be. I have considered Leconte but am not sure of the pronunciation of the c (like a K or an S?) If it's pronounced like an S, I could see that the U.S. spelling would be phonetically similar. Any thoughts or ideas on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
