My great great grandfather, Mathias Theissen, was born 22.4.1831 in the village of Hunningen near Bullingen. His father was Nicolaus Theissen, born 17.3.1796, and his mother was Anna Maria Stoffels, born 29.11.1802. They were married 22.10.1823. Anna Maria Stoffels died 01.01.1837 and is buried next to the Catholic church in Hunningen. Nicholas married a second time to Maria Susanna Breuer, born 18.12.1809. They were married 06.02.1839. Nicolaus' parents were Joseph Theissen and Anna Gertrud Luxen. Anna Maria Stoffels' parents were Mathias Stoffels and Sibilla Vossen. Nicolaus and his family came to the USA in the 1850s. His son John married Gertrude Manderfeld of Manderfeld before leaving Belgium.

Mathias Theissen married Margaretha Pothen in 1858, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA. She was born in Murringen, and was the daughter of Hubert Pothen. Hubert and his family came to the USA in about 1855. Hubert's wife was a Yost. He had three brothers who died in Napoleon's armies.

I am interested in any available information about any of these people. I am especially interested in knowing more about Nicolaus Theissen, Joseph Theissen, Hubert Pothen, and their parents and brothers and sisters. Any help will be mush appreciated.

BACH in Langenfeld, Belgium?

Can anyone verify for me that a Langenfeld existed in the 1800s near Malmedy? BACH family members have indicated to me that is the birthplace of Nicolas BACH, 1820, Langenfeld, near Malmedy, Belgium (a few miles from it).
Thanks for any comments or directions as to where to verify this. I guess one can order the civil records for Malmedy to be absolutely sure, but at least I would like to know the town existed. Is it now called Longfaye? Or was Longfaye known in the Prussian era by another name?

They came from belgium to the US between 1865 and 1880 (around 1870)
On the 1880 census record they declared being all born in Belgium but I don't know

the town.
GHENT was mention on some papers
The father HERMAN (born 1824) and the MOTHER Maria (born around 1825)
The Childrens THOMAS (1850), CORNELIUS (1855), BARTHOLMEUS (1858), JOSEPH (1860),

My paternal great grandmother, Leonie LAMMENS, was born in Sep 1875 in Alsace-Lorraine, Belgium. If I did my research correctly, this area was part of Germany. She immigarted to New Jersey, USA and the 1910 census records conirm her birthplace as Belgium.In what country and/or area do I start to research? Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

Ross from Manderfeld, Belgium

I am looking for information on a Ross family that may have come from Manderfeld. There were three siblings: Henry born about 1834, Christina (my great-grandmother), born about 1836, and Anthony, born about 1844. We don't know when they came to the US, but we know that Christina was married to Nicholas Reiter in 1854 in Ramsey, MN. They settled on a farm near Vermillion, Dakota County, MN. In the 1860 census records, Henry and Anthony are listed as living with Christina and Nicholas along with a Peter Held who we believe was a cousin. We have no other information on Henry. Anthony married Frederika Alt in Hastings, MN in 1870 and they had a son, Henry Peter, in 1871. Sometime after that they moved to Seattle, WA. Any information will be appreciated.

Hugo Ernestus Krebs Families

Alrighty folks, family and potential family:

I am in the middle of updating and modernizing the information in our Tree. The last typed update was sometime in the '70s and I have been hand-writing new information on the "old" copy as I get it.

There have been several marriages, births and a few deaths since it was last worked on. So, I am interviewing my "branches" and getting it all together, as well as getting pictures, stories and supporting documents to add to my project and eventually a website and possibly a book of some sort will be published to show it all off.

I am kind of stuck on one point and if anyone can help, please do. In my research of Hugo's father, Johann, I have pretty much hit a brick wall in that I can not find much data about him, other than birth date & place and spouse demographics. If someone speaks and understands German well and is able to translate German sites or is able to come-up with any data on Johann, please share.

Johann Tobias (father) and Johann Ludwig (son) Krebs have been ruled out as being part of Hugo's immediate family. They may be cousins, but I have not found any links between the 2 Krebs families. Johann Ludwig's descendants settled in Pennsylvania and were Lutherans as opposed to Hugo and his descendants in Mississippi and were Catholics.

Happy hunting and best wishes to all. This project is fun and sometimes a preoccupation, but I'm committed to it.

August Van Cleemput. His son Fortune Van Cleemput b. 3 Sept. 1882 in Bois-de-Villiers, Namur, Belgium. Fortune and his wife Josephine Louise Marie Lamaitre b. 2 Dec 1877 emmigrated to Canada with their two sons Marcel and George Ghislais Berthuin in 1926? from the port of Antwerp.
Family rumor has it that August changed his name to Van Cleemput from "Von Kleinput" or something similar, having come originally from Holland or most likely Germany. He and his brothers were reportedly large scale structural contractors building large buildings, bridges etc.
If anyone can even give me suggestions as to what the original name (Von Keimput? Von Kleinput?) may have been, Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

My ancestor, Peter Gerdon, was born in that village in the mid-17th century, and moved to the Saarland, where he was married to Margaretha Geredt on 27 August 1679 & to Anna Rosina Enckrich on 20 April 1681.

I am looking for any information on my gr gr grandmother's place of origin, family etc. Her name was Victoria Henriette BUNSENDHALL, also spelled: BUNSENDAL, BUNZANDAL, BUNSENTHAL, BUNSENDAHL. I have not been able to find any information on this name anywhere. Her family may have immigrated to Jamaica in the 1850's or so. SHe married an English army sargeant named William ELLIOTT in 1865 in Kingston. In the church register her name is spelled BUNSENDHALL which may have been an "Englished" spelling. Does any one konw anything about this name?????

I have found my Grandfather's family on the Ellis Island website. It lists their place of origin as Ludewich, Germany. I have not been able to find out where this town or village is located. The manifest also lists a relative who remained in Germany, my Great Great Grandmother. Her surname was Strumper (there is an umlaut over the u). She lived in Herten. Where can I find out where Ludewich is? Where do I go from here? What resources are there in Germany for me to do my research? Please help.

I am researching Michael Sondag who emigrated to Monroe County, IL, USA in about 1860. On some census information he is listed as being from Belgium, others from Germany and one says Belg. German. He was Catholic and thought ot have spoke German, however one of his children reports their father spoke Flemish. Does any of this make sense to anyone. If someone is a Belgium - German that possibly speaks Flemish, where would they be from? Any help in figuring this out would be most appreciated.

I'm researching Peter Joseph Scheer. He was born in 1854 near Koblenz, Germany. He had an older brother Frank. Peter stowed away on a ship to the USA in the 1870's to avoid the draft. It is said that he came from a very military family. Possibly related to the German Admiral Scheer of WWI.
