Yes, she was my father's sister. It is my great grandparents I really know nothing about. Claire never married so my father was the last of that family to bear the name Dieltgens.
We had hoped to connect with someone related to either the Dieltgens or the Borgniet family. They may have all died out. Francois (Frank) and Leonie had one other child, Irene but she was born in Nova Scotia. My grandmother only returned once upon the death of her father, Arthur Borgniet. If you could see anything about them, that would be great but I think they lived in Charleroi, not Marcinelle.

This is great, you have the correct people, that is definitely my father's birth certificate. Interesting to have two children with the same name! We are unable to find any of the Borgniet family either. My grandmother, Leonie Marie Louise Borniet was the daughter of Arthur Borgniet and Josephine Radelet. Her mother died when my grandmother was young and her father remarried. I believe they had at least one daughter from that second marriage. They all resided in Charleroi, to the best of my knowledge.

I live in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia also on the East Coast. We live in an area that used to mine coal which is what brought my grandfather to Nova Scotia, first to Joggins in Cumberland County and then they moved to Cape Breton when the mines were opening in the early 1900's. My grandfather was quite knowledgeable, probably from his experience in Belgium and quickly became an "overman" or supervisor in the mines in which he worked.

I hope to get to Charleroi at some point in my life. I have been searching for relatives for some time but to no avail. I have some death notices from the deaths of my great grandfather on the Borgniet side that name some families but no one has ever responded when I posted them on this Ancestry.com. I really appreciate everything you are recovering for me now.

quick answers for now; I have to leave this morning.
"houilleur" means coal miner. The word does not exist in the French dictionary anymore.
The names cut are the names of witnesses.
The name of the father of the child is just before the word "houilleur". It also says that the father of the child was 30 years old when he came to the municipal building to tell his son was born the day before (19). So the father was born around 1869. Here father and son have the same first names.
When I looked yesterday, I saw 3 Dieltgens in the births section and 2 in the marriages for the period 1881-1890; I did not look in the other period that you can look on line 1891-1900; I will do it this afternoon or tomorrow. I was born in Charleroi, Belgium, near Marcinelle. I know Marcinelle very well. Now I live on the east coast of the US. Where do you live in Canada?

Louis Dieltgens was my grandfather. We were always told he was called Grand Louis. We had his wife's first name as Albertine but that may have been an error in translation. My grandfather was Francois Dieltgens, born June 28, 1884 but we knew that he had a brother. My father, Raoul Arthur Louis Elise Dieltgens was born in Marcinelle and emigrated to Canada when he was only 1-2 years old. He was born in 1907. They were coal miners. I think you have have found the right people, but the wrong son. Any other information you can find would be greatly appreciated. I have old photo albums of people in Belgium but they are glued in a album so I cannot see if there are names on the back. We are the only Dieltgens in Canada and have been unable to find anyone else with the same name or any Belgian relatives so any information you can get for me will be helpful. Thank you so much for replying.

Can you tell me what that word is? The bottom half of the document is not visible, does it give their parents' names?
Merci.

In 2009, I went to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, where I found more information about my great grandparents than I could imagine. I still have many questions, and plan to keep searching through FamilySearch.org. Hopefully, some day, I will also make a research trip to Belgium. Thanks again for your response.

We thank you for contacting us at familysearch.org asking about researching your ancestors in France and Belgium.

We don't know what French or Belgium records are on the project schedule, but have you looked at the many collections familysearch.org has now? There are five record collections for Belgium, and eight for France.

Most of the collections are indexed, but there are several that are browse only. To find these, go to familysearch.org, click on All Record Collections, then, when Collection name appears in the search blank (be patient, as this is very slow) type France into the search box and press enter.

Do the same thing to find the Belgium collections.

Researchers have written down the best ways to research in France and Belgium. There are excellent articles found in our Research Wiki.

Go to familysearch.org and click on the word Learn at the top of the page. Then click on Research Wiki. Type France into the search blank and press enter.

The article is full of information and all the blue phrases are internet links, so click on those that look promising.

We know from personal research in France that most all of the French Vital Records, both civil and church records, are now online. We have been able to research our ancestors in French parish records before 1675 in the Bas-Rhin Department. You can access these French archives by clicking on the name of your department, then going to the article and clicking on archives.

You can obtain similar help on Belgium by going to the wiki article about Belgium. Also, use your search engine (we use google) and search for “History of Belgium” to discover the boundary changes.

We taught ourself how to read enough French to read the vital records by going again to the Research Wiki (see above) and typing in French Wordlist...I am thinking just have someone who speaks French and English do it for us... :-)

FamilySearch has microfilmed a great many records in France and Belgium, and you can rent to microfilms to read them, if you can't find what you need from the online Archives.

To find these, go to familysearch.org and click on Catalog. Then type the location where your ancestors lived into the search box and click on Search.

If you find records that interest you, click on them until you get the details and the film numbers. Click on the film number and you will be walked through the online ordering procedure.

You will need to register (free) on familysearch.org to order films. In the order procedure you will be prompted to find the Family History Center closest to you.

When the film is delivered from Salt Lake City, you will be notified by your local Family History Center. You can view it there and take pictures of the actual digitized records.

We hope this has been a help to you and that you have success as you continue your family history research.

Come join our FamilySearch community! Contact FamilySearch through forums.familysearch.org (this is free) to receive help from a worldwide community of patrons and experts.

Hi To Jules kin:
I know I told you I would email you in Sept. but my graduate level class is starting this week and I shall be really busy so I will most likely not have a chance to respond until my break sometime in Oct. or maybe around Christmas, busy busy with school,11th graduate level course, hopefully after I complete three master degrees I can apply for PhD and become professor Hainaut, first in family, that I know of, unless you are a professor, any tips how to study for GRE, VERBAL ABILITY SCARES Me,hard to get PhD in USA I am sure you know, living here sometimes I wish Louis stayed in Europe easier PhD...especially PRIVATE University on Eastern seaboard, only 50% of graduating even if I get in... lot of words in dictionary...anyway I gave you this website last time, and ironically everything you told me was on there do not know if you notice, the family tree someone posted of Louis Joseph Hainaut, 1768, anyway I was wondering we share Louis Joseph Hainaut, 1852, but who is from that point TO 1768, that is I think Louis Joseph Hainaut FATHER WAS
Louis Alexis Hainaut, am I right?
parents:
Louis Hainaut, Sophie Cauchefer
name:
Louis Alexis Hainaut
gender:
Male
birth date:
24 Mar 1834
birthplace:
Féron, Nord, France
father's name:Louis Hainaut
mother's name:Sophie Cauchefer
indexing project (batch) number:
C86616-7
system origin:
France-EASy
source film number:

spouse:
Louis Joseph Hainaut
child:
Palmire Arsene Hainaut
name:
Palmire Arsene Hainaut
gender:
Male
birth date:
15 May 1836
birthplace:
Féron, Nord, France
father's name:
Louis Joseph Hainaut
mother's name:
Sophie Cauchefer
indexing project (batch) number:
C86616-7
system origin:
France-EASy
source film number:

I think Louis Alexis Hainaut, pronounced Heno, according to a website I found in the USA, a phone book, cool French sounding pronounication, sadly I can not speak French, you? anyway just wondering if I am right, and do you know what happened if they had any kids? Pretty big family with all the brothers and what not in 1690s, oh here are some jokes I thought were funny enjoy...A blonde women went to the doctor office and walked through the door and said doctor I think every bone in my body is broken, doctor goes why do you think this, the blonde women replied everytime, using her right index finger, I touch my arm it hurts, legs, hurts, even my head, the doctor looks at her and says your right index finger is broken :-)

There was a Minister whose wife was expecting a baby. The Minister went to the congregation and asked for a raise. After much consideration and discussion, they passed a rule that when the Minister's family expanded, so would his pay check.

After five or six children, this started to get expensive. The congregation decided to hold a meeting again to discuss the Minister's pay situation. You can imagine there was much yelling and bickering. Finally, the Minister got up and spoke to the crowd, "Having children is an act of God!"

In the back of the room, a little old man with a full beard stood up, and in his frail voice said... "Snow and Rain are also 'acts of God', but when we get too much, we wear rubbers!"

Sincerely,
Brandan HAINAUT..HAINAUT since 1675 :-)
https://familysearch.org/

Bonjour Cédric,
There is a family link, I believe.
In my original e-mail I wrote about Rosa Fassieaux and Lieut. Frederick Longworth, the Canadian soldier killed near Jemappes on Nov. 18,1918.
Rosa's granddaughter, who is Rosa Libert, wrote to me last year and explained some of the family history. You must be related to Mme. Libert.
She told me, if I understand the story correctly, that a relative called Gaston Faissieaux was killed in 1944 during the war. His father, Sylvain Fassieaux, buried Gaston in the same cemetery as Lieut. Longworth.
Is any of this correct? My apologies if I am wrong.
Please write again if you have more questions.

Scott Howarth
Toronto
Hi,
Nice to meet you, I have alot of the family history about Louis senior 1852 but I could not trace anything back to Europe, I wish I was not at school I could upload some of the files I have of the family... that is neat how you know who is father was (Louis) I searched for years, sadly I could not read French like the rest of the old family members, my grandfather spoke it but never taught me...As I explained earlier my great grandfather was Alfred or Fred Hainaut he was married twice my grandfather Charles Hainaut, DMD was off his first wife Irma Briceland...I come off his only son and he has three daughters....I was on facebook with Louis Joseph Hainaut siblings, they were alot of them, over 15 I think....they live right down the road from me about an hour and everytime I wanted to meet they did not want to, so I got frustrated and disconnected them I am not proud of that..my parents wanted to meet them and over the last two years they kept on canceling..my parents go give up on them..That was something about Louis dying in the horrible work accident? My father and I went to the burial site, he did not even have a tombstone..poor man...I was wondering did Alfred and Florence have any kids I found somewhere that he died in 1967..Nice talking to you.I was trying to put together a family reunion.I shall check back sometime next week and upload the information I found :-)

There is a site online that has obituaries from McDonald PA, as I recall there was a terrible mine cave in and several Descutners and a few Hainauts were killed. I got a lot of my information from family and from obituaries. The two families are very interesting in Europe. The Original Louis was from just over the French border in France and the Hainauts are from Charleroi to a mining area in France.

All of the Hainauts except Edward had kids and the families tended to be rather large. What makes it difficult is they keep using the same names over and over again but I separated most of it out. I would like to know where Louis (senior) was born and where he was married. The Descutners and the Hainauts came over on the same boat. I have the exact date somewhere. Jules carried a good luck piece in his little ten year old pocket on the voyage over and I have that.
