Irma, thanks so much for providing this document. I appreciate it.

So now I know her birth place as Rekem, thanks! I also believe I have his father's first name as Francois, but other than that I don't now much about his progenitors. I'll have to keep studying this line.

Thanks again for all your help!!

Respectfully,

Kevin Strattan

No luck on the Death Certificate, thanks for the suggestion. I do know he died 30 Jul 1857 in Hasselt, Zwartewaterland, Overijssel, or at least that is what my records say, but Family Search doesn't have any deaths for him.

Thanks for the help.
Hi Kevin,
Searched my CD with the records of Rekem, Belgium, for the name Pafhuizen.

Found the following:
- Beckers, Dam.
Gehuwd (married) op 05-07-1745 te Rekem met Pafenhausen, Maria. Geboren (born) te Koblenz-Westfalen
- Paffhousen, Philip.
Gehuwd op 20-02-1724 te Rekem met Beijers, Anna Catharina.
- Boems, Joannis.
Gehuwd op 12-09-1734 te Rekem met Pafhousen, Marie.

Nothing more! Nothing on the name Pafhuizen which surely is a sort of Dutch spelling of the name.
The original name could be spelled Paffhausen or Paffhousen or.......what ever spelling it may be to my humble opinion it is German. Certainly because you mention that Theodore was a soldier.
You better search the Internet for that general-major Bentink because I don't know nothing about soldiers.

By the way; have you searched for Theodore's death certificate at FamilySearch?

Sorry that I couldn't be of more help.
Succes with your search!
Greetings,
Irma
Irma,

AWESOME! Thank you so much for responding and looking into this. It was more than I hoped for!

I'm not sure where I got this information as it has been years, but it was said that Theodorus was a soldier in the first batallion of the regular Infantry of general-major Bentink. I tried searching for more on this, but not sure who this general is and what conflict he served in?! Does this ring a bell for you ... or for anyone?

Anyway, thanks again for all your help!

Respectfully,

Kevin Strattan

Theodorus was born Abt. 1762 in Beekheim, Belgium per the records, but I could not find a Beekheim. I did find someone else mentioning Beekheim and thinking it might really be Rekem in Limburg?

The thing is Theodorus ended up in the Netherlands, so although I've researched a lot of my Dutch ancestors, I'm not so sure on how to research this Belgian one?!

I also have notes the following notes on him:
Military service: Soldier in the first batallion of the reg. Infantry of general-major Bentink
Religion: Catholic

He ended up marrying Hendrikje Frederiks Van 't Spijker in Hasselt, Zwartewaterland, Overijssel, The Netherlands on 25 Apr 1791.

He died 30 Jul 1857 in the same place where he was married.

I also have that his father was Francois, but thats all I have now (aside from his children and my ancestor of course). I would love to learn more and to delve into my Belgian Background for the first time if possible.

Respectfully,
-ks

Hello,

You can find a Marie-Rose Dexters on Facebook and Netlog. The birthdate on Netlog correspond with the year of your birthcard of 1947 ( she lives in Limburg ). Netlog is not used often as a social network anymore so I believe you'll have a great chance on the Facebook Marie-Rose Dexters. Send her a message trough Facebook and you will know more.

Kind Regards,
Marc
Belgium

Hello.
I think I might be able to help.
My late grandfather Jan Pieter Stassen was born in Stokkem in Belgium. Family of his granfather emigrated to Minnesota around the 1892that. One of the descendant was Harold Stassen, Minessota's one time governer I believe. The town in Belgium which I can trace my family to is Dilsen in Limburg.
I have a family tree I have drawn up and an old scanned newspaper article in flemish my grandad gave me about the Stassen family in America.
I hope this helps

Regards michel smit

Hi Irma, Yes I am definitely still interested! I haven't been online in awhile because I keep getting sick :~( I'll send an invite to view my tree to your home.nl email address...I would love to hear what you think and welcome any additions or suggestions that you may have! Jaak and I (we're 5th cousins if I remember correctly) corresponded for about a decade, but I haven't heard back from him in months, and I have tried several times. Do you know if everything's alright with him? He was wonderfully kind in sharing his research with me beginning in the 1990's and he provided my first in-depth information on my distant Belgian ancestors...it was and is still very fascinating to me, and I'm very proud of my Belgian/Dutch lineage! I may not be able to respond right away because this weekend I'm driving to Tennessee to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with my husband and family...may not be back home until around the 30th of Nov. or Dec. 1st. I beg your patience with me, and in the meantime I hope you enjoy perusing my tree :~) Sincerely, Karen

Hi Irma! It's wonderful to hear from you :~) It might be easier to invite you to see my Ancestry.com tree? Many of my lines have been traced back to the mid-1500's, thanks to a very generous and smart cousin in Hasselt! There are still some gaps in Belgium, but my biggest troubles are with my immigrant family and their life in Nebraska after they came to the states in 1893. If you'd like to send me an invite just let me know. For now I can be reached at kmbw57xs@gmail.com. Thank you for your response, Karen.

Hi ?,
No, I am not related to the Simons or the Van Essers family, just interested in Dutch emigrant families and during this research I also came across Belgian families. If you let me know what you are missing I can try to fill in these gaps.
I live just across the border from the region your ancestors came from!
Greetings,
Irma

I'm always looking for new information :~) I've been fortunate to learn quite a bit about the families, but I still have gaps I'm hoping to fill, and there are many unknowns about the family just after they immigrated to the U.S.A. Are you a descendant also? It would be wonderful to hear back from you if you're agreeable! Thanks so much for your letter...

Maybe it's late to answer but I just looked today for a Joannes Verjans who went to the US with his family.
It seems (needs to be verified) that Joannes Verjans was born July 10, 1798 ("Jan" is the flamisch name for "Joannes").
I found an info on the net : Joannes is the son of Joannes and Agnes Nooben, he ha 6 children. His name became FERRIANS, it's just the english way to pronounce Verjans, and after that FERRIAN, his kids : John, William, Louis, August, Theodore, Alphonse. His wife (2d): Maria Gertrude FRANSEN. He arrived in NY, coming from Antwerp in 1862.
Why I'm a busy with that ?
My mother's name is... Verjans :)
Tell me please if you had an answer since 2003 :)
Martin

Yes, it was Perle, Luxembourg. Family search has a pilot site up with some records from luxembourg. You have to browse them as they are not indexed. If you type this into the address box, the family search site opens in a separate window.
http://www.luxroots.com/ec

A most helpful, kind gentleman pointed me in that direction.

Thank you for responding to my question.
That's neat - how did you access the Luxembourg records?

Did you resolve the Perle, Belgium question? If your Harmann/Horman was in the Luxembourg records, is it possible you are looking for Perlé in Luxembourg?

Looking for origins of Jean Pierre Harmann. Harmann is the name he went by after immigrating to Iowa in 1869. In his obituary, it says he was born in March of 1838 in Perle, Belgium. I could not find a place called Perle, but I believe the children who were recalling the information for the obit might have meant Paal. From what surname might Harmann have derived? Does anyone have any information on Jean Pierre? He was single when he immigrated and his father's name was Henri. Thank you!

Her name is Augusta Marie Windels and she was born 9-14-1900 I was wondering if you might have any information on her? The only other thing that I know for sure about her is that she married Marcel Christiaens in Belgium on November 28, 1918 and that they had one son Andre Remi Christiaens.

I would like to know who her parents were, what city she was from, and who her siblings are. If you have any information that could help me it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Patricia

I have been researching my Limburg ancestors who arrived in Carver County, Minnesota in 1863. They came from Rotem, Limburg, Belgium and settled in Watertown Township, Carver County and others went to Ramsey County (St. Paul). The family names in Flemish were Snijckers, Cox. They also came with Limburgers from Susteren, Holland who were Vergoosen and Beckers. The Snijckers name spelling was changed variously to Snicker, Sniker, Snyker. All the families were Catholic and descendants married into German and Irish Catholic families. I was in Belgium in 1995, but didn't know the family origins at the time. I have found these families in the records at the Family History Library in SLC. I have visited the Carver County Historical Museum, etc. I am looking for information on Rotem, Limburg, Belgium and the Catholic church they might have worshiped in before coming to Minnesota. What luck have you had in finding out about the local history of the towns where your ancestors came from in Limburg, Belgium?

Hi, Henricus Konings (Koninx) born in Genck, Belguim in 1699 is also my last known ancester. I was searching yesterday and found a direct link from him right down the line to me (9 generations in total).
I was born in New Zealand but my parents are originally from the Netherlands.
If you're still interested I can send you the info I have found.
I'm still very keen to find out anything further if anybody knows.
Looking for information on family Tempels-Landerloos

Hello,

I live in England and am desperately looking for more information on my paternal grandparents, unforutnately no-one in my family seems to have information as to where I could find the birth date of Joannes (Jan) Tempels and his wife Pauline Landerloos. My father died in 1983 and my mother doesn't know at all, there are no other Tempels relatives alive who can assist.

I believe that Jan was born in Paal (not sure it could have been Koersel) and died early 1960's (again not sure where but it could have been in Tienen where he lived with his second wife), I have no information on Pauline at all, she died when I was very young (possibly around 1955).

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated
