Hi Michael,

I just saw your rather old post, hopefully you are still around.

My 4th great grandfather, Joseph Hubert Steffens/Steffen, and his family lived in Heinstert from 1836 to 1854, when they came to the U.S. (Before that they lived at Hachy.) I've seen other families who's surname was Steffany in the homeland often changed it to Steffens or Steffen here and thought that might be the case with your family - perhaps we are related?

Thanks,
Carin Rhoden

Searching for descendants of Auguste Serephin Chauvaux born 6 Nov 1884 in Bertrix, Paliseul,
Luxembourg, Belgium. Parents are Jean Baptiste Joseph Chauvaux and Marie Florence Piquard married
10 Dec 1879 also in Bertrix. Auguste has two brothers Ernest Joseph and Francios Joseph Arthur (my
grandfather) that came to US by 1913 with their widowed mother. I am also investigating the death of
their father (Jean Baptiste Joseph Chauvaux) rumored to have died in a Slate mine in 1911. Any information or
contacts with my family in Bertrix area would be priceless.

Also searching the Chauvaux surname in Launoy, Paliseul, Neuvillers, Recogne and Saint-Pierre.
Hi....

I wish I could say for sure that I know where your Clement come from, but I cannot. I do have Clement in my line, but the represent a present wall (not sure if it is brick or just vegetation!). And Clement would seem to be a common name.

My family originates in Meix-le-Tige just southwest of Arlon. One of the families is made up of a Bailleux father and Clement mother. I am not sure where her Clement family is from. However, one of her daughters married a Clement from Baranzy which is SSW of Meix-le-Tige and certainly in the wrong direction from Nothomb.

I may not be able to give you any help but would hope that at least I can give you some good incentive. Good luck.

Constantine DeViche and Catherine Heuertz of Remsen, Iowa

I'm looking for any information about Constantine Caesar Victor DeViche, born around 1825 in Belgium, husband of Catherine Heuertz born 1835 in Luxembourg, daughter of Peter Heuertz and Marie-Anne Sinner. Constantine came to the US in 1852 and Catherine came in 1855 and they were married in Galena, IL in 1855 and moved to Remsen, Iowa, where they had at least four children, one of which... Mary DeViche is my Great Grandmother. We know something of the background of Catherine Heuertz, but almost nothing about her husband Constantine DeViche, except that he was from Belgium and born in or around 1825 and came to the US in 1852 through New Orleans LA.
Also, an uncle of Catherine Heuertz, her father's brother Jean Mathias Heuertz married a Stephanie Josephine DeViche (also from Belgium), so there is more than one connection between the Heuertz and DeViche families, but I haven't been able to quite figure it all out or find much information about any DeViche family member.
I'd also like to know if any other Heuertz family member came with Catherine to the US in 1855. I don't believe her parents did, I think they both died in Holzem, Luxembourg. But she had 4 brothers, Pierre, Jean Baptiste, Nicholas and Antoine Heuertz and 2 sisters...Marie and Margaretha, some of whom may have come with her to the US. There are some Heuertz families near Dubuque Iowa that may or may not be related to Catherine.

I'm researching a Maria Behrens from Luxembourg, birth 1/16/1833, she came to Ozaukee county WI, USA around 1850-1855. I have hit a dead end and I'm wondering if there could be another similar way of spelling Behrens other than Berens. In my research I have come across Behrens but all have been from Germany, not a one from Luxembourg. According to all the census reports it states she is from Luxembourg so I'm pretty sure thats the case. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
