Maps of Luxembourg province?

Hello, I'm trying to locate a village name Ritteburg (or something close to it) from the mid to late 1700's. At first we thought this was either in the present day country of Luxembourg or the part of today's Germany that used to be part of Luxembourg, but now I'm wondering if it may have been in the province of Luxembourg in Belgium. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Scott

Hello,

I recently discovered that my grandfather is originally from the town of Heinstert near Arlon in the Luxembourg province of Belgium. (born circa 1892 & arrived in the USA on July 18, 1908 aboard the ship Kroonland)

Unfortunately the LDS only carries parish records for Heinstert covering the years of 1650 - 1797 and 1808 - 1810.

What is the best way to find records for Heinstert after 1810? Did the Parish church in Heinstert close after 1810? Should I be looking in Attert instead or somewhere else nearby?

Thank you,

Michael

I am researching the Arend family in Ohio and seem to have hit a dead end.
I have a Dominic Arend b. 19 Dec 1819, d. 9 Dec 1903 married to a Mary
Wagoner b. 15 Aug 1829, d. 17 Jan 1917. They married about 1850 in Ohio. Both claim to be from Belgium/Lux.
On all census records and any document I can find either Belgium is written
or Luxembourg. I cannot find any immigration records. He immigrated at age 19, so that would have been in 1838 or so. His parents were Lawrence and Mary Arend (who did not immigrate). He had a younger brother, Nicholas, who also came to Ohio. I haven't found any records that would lead me back to a particular town in Belgium/Lux. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thank you so very much.

Welu relatives immigrated to the United States and settled in the Midwest, primarily Iowa and Minnesota. Anton, the oldest was married to Susan Dress and they brought their children, Anton's brothers, Nicholas and John B. also came with them. Susan's brother Joseph and his wife and sister Barbara, probably married to a Haupert came along also. They came in the late 1800's and according to the obituaries the Welu's left a number of siblings in Luxembourg. They came from the Clemency area and another name mentioned in the obits is Koensig.

I am looking for any information on STEPHANY and CLEMENT families connected to these two individuals:

George M. STEPHANY (my grandfather), born circa 1892 in Luxembourg, Belgium - probably Arlon or surrounding areas, immigrated to Wyoming County, NY circa 1908.

and George CLEMENT, born circa 1860 in Belgium, immigrated to Wyoming County, NY in 1882. Married Ellen (last name unknown) in NY.

George STEPHANY'S US social security application states that his parents were:

Michel (Michael) STEPHANY of Arlon, Belgium and Josephine CLEMENT of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

Paternal grandparents are possibly Michel STEPHANY and Catherine MULLER/MILLER?

Maternal grandparents are possibly Pierre (Perry) CLEMENT and Anne RICHARD?

George M. STEPHANY and George CLEMENT are probably close relatives - cousins or uncle/nephew.

George M. STEPHANY is listed in the 1910 US Census for Wyoming Co., NY as "George STEFFANY" living as a boarder with a George CLEMENT and family in Wethersfield, NY just east of Java, NY and close to Sheldon, NY where other CLEMENT families from Luxembourg, Belgium lived.

Thank you,

Michael

We are trying to find information about our family name. Martin, Margaret, children and grandchildren, arrived in the United States in 1834 on the USS Constellation. We know they were married on November 02, 1831 in Toernich, Arlon District, Luxembourg Belgium.

We want to find any information about this family. This is the missing link for us. We can't trace more until we get facts from Belgium.

Does anyone know where we can go to get more information? Maybe we could search at churches there in Toernich? Is this a large place?

Thanks for any help.

Caroline

I have found that my greatgrandparents came from Stockem. His name was Mathias (Matt) KRAFT. His wifes name was Louisa Tock. They arrived in New York on October 31, 1884, with their three children, and settled in Kansas City, Mo. There are two other names, who I think are relation; Alferd KROELL, (the O has an umlaut) and Maggie (Margaret) Schneitzer. She married Mr. L.A. Noland, and lived in Walnut, Ks. Do these names mean anything to anyone???? I have some old photos of these people taken at a studio in Arlon. Any help would be appreciated.

I am happy to report that a very nice person in Minnesota, has added the Zoellers to the familysearch database, of Luxembourg. Michaelis Zoller (with an umlaut over the "O") was born about 1733 in the village of Bourscheid, Diekirch, Luxembourg. My Great-great-grandfather Franciscus is his grandson! Besides that, all of the dates for Franciscus and his first wife's children were found by her also! Now I just have to write her, and thank her, and go from here! If anyone can help me further on this, please write ... PS We have the family tree almost complete for Franciscus' first family of children. He remarried at Saint Boniface, New Riegel, OH after his wife, Anna Maria Wathier, died; his son Joseph from that union was my Great-grandfather, and the families remain in the Seneca County, Ohio area. I have listed some of the new surnames ...

Anna (Welter) and Peter Tholl from Luxembourg

My father, Joseph Tholl (DOB: April 12, 1899) was the youngest child of Anna (DOB: June 15, 1857 ) and Peter (DOB: February 08, 1850) He arrived in America in March of 1901, not yet 2 years old, on the ship, Kensington, with his parents and 9 older siblings (and a brother-in-law John Baptist Welscher (DOB: January 25, 1871) from Luxembourg. Two other siblings, who died soon after their birth were left behind buried in Luxembourg.

Anna was the daughter of Nicholas Welter (DOD: Abt. May 12, 1859 ) and Johanna Weirig (DOB: February 06, 1824) and to the best of my knowledge Anna had 3 sisters. One sister was named Elise and she married Etienne Wagener (DOB: March 18, 1853) who was a history teacher. (Source: Peter and Anna's marriage registration and Index to marriage registrations: Elise and Etienne)

Peter was the son of George (DOB: January 02, 1812)and Elisabeth (Schmit) Tholl (DOB:March 30, 1822) and my mother, Marguerite Tholl (DOB: December, 27, 1909; still alive with a very accurate memory) recalls Anna speaking of a sickly brother of Peter's (Anna's husband) who died young. George was believed to be the illegitimate son of an Annemarie Tholl who died in October, 1844. (How common were illegitimate children who took their mother's name in this era? Any insight to this is appreciated.)

Much of this information is unsubstantiated and is from reports from various family members. I have some information on most of the siblings of my father, Joseph, who were children of Anna and Peter. I will gladly share any information with others and would appreciate any information that rounds out, corrects or confirms my information.

Noreen(Tholl) McGratten

I believe they died in the war, WWI, but am not sure or WWII...no one knows. I think she had a brother named Nicholas and a sister named Lillian. But this I am not sure of either.

Also I have an idea that Jacobs parents names were Henry Scholtes and Angela Biner, and Mary's parents were Matthew Fischbach and Charlotte Zeenen.

Your help is appreciated.
Tintange or Bigonville, Luxembourg Province

Nicholas Jacquemain was born in "Bigonville, Kanton von Fauvillers, in der Provinz Luxemburg" in April 1838. When I did a search for the village of Bigonville, I found one very near Arsdorf in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (where Nicholas' siblings were born). However I believe the Bigonville that I am looking for has been renamed to Tintange in the Luxembourg Province. Does anyone know if this is correct? Also in 1838 the Luxembourg Province would have still been part of the Grand Duchy, correct? Thanks for any help!

Need help with a marriage document from Hachy, Luxembourg, Belgium

Hi! I tried to make a copy of a marriage record from a catholic church in Hachy from the LDS film from the time period 1872 for a Michael Deville (or Devillet) and Maria Elisabetha Fonck (dau. of Henricus Fonck and Susanna Thomas. I'm trying to figure out the date of the marriage (know it is 1872 because the record was located 3 records before the start of 1873) and who Michael's parents are. Unfortunately the copies I printed off kept running the words together so I can tell what it is, though it looks like his mother may have been Maria Jafo/Gafe something that is only 4 letters long and starts with either a j or a g. My best bet on the father's name was Petri because it looks like it's only 5 letters long and has a "tr" in it. I found baptismal records for children from a Francisci Devillet and his wife, Anna Maria Groeft or Graf (as another person on the list lists her possible sister Magdalena as a Graf - she married Henry Schung) and couldn't really find any other mentions of Devilles in Hachy until Michael and Maria Elisabeth's children around the 1800's, the baptismal records say that Francisci and Anna were from Saas but it looks now like it was probably suppose to say Suess instead. If anyone can provide any help or even a copy of the record that actually is readable I would be very grateful. Thanks for any help.

Arlon Belgium Researcher Wanted to Research Sondag Surname

I am looking for someone to research records for the area around Arlon, Belgium for records relating to the Sondag's (also sometimes spelled Sonntag or Sontag) that emigrated to the Monroe County, Illinois. Given names include Michael, Servais, Theodore, Joseph, all brothers. Possibly sisters Martha, Elizabeth and Agnes. My primary interest is Michael Sondag born December 16, 1839 and emigrated c. 1860. Not all of the family necessarily came at the same time. His death certificate indicates his father's name was also Michael. Mother is unknown. Willing to pay reasonable fees. Contact Larry Taylor at taylorle@swbell.net.

My Great-grandmother, Rose (b. 31 March 1889), and her sister, Margaret(b. 1891) emmigrated from Luxembourg to the United States in 1903 (according to the 1910 and 1920 census), or in 1900 (according to my Grandmother). They settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Their father, Stephan, either arrived at the same time or at a later date. (The girls may have come to the US with their aunt.) Their mother, Elizabeth Bertha BAUM, died in Luxembourg. I have searched the passenger arrival lists for Philadelphia and Baltimore, and the Ellis Island website. I have tried looking at the Boston arrival lists, but all I got from that was dizzy (there was no index). I would appreciate any advice on where to search next. I would really like it if anyone out there knew anything about my ancestors.
