Van Den Bon/Van De Bon's from Brudges, West Flanders

Hello,

New to this & am trying to figure out how to find relatives or history of my family.

My great grandfather came to Canada from Belgium. His name was Van De Bon (his father's name was Edward but the obit reads: EDUARD VANDENBON).

He was married to Irma Van Hecke.

My great great grandpa Edward had two (or three?) wives with many children. All would have the last name Van De(n) Bon until they married. Grandpa had siblings with the names: Louie, Henry, August, Maria, Alice, Aresna, Adrianna, Irma & Kamil and I have some of their spouses and childrens names.

Any suggestions or ideas how I would start?

André and Diana Deketelaere in Torhout : looking for the rest of the story!

My grandfather, Heinrich Lohmeyer, served during WW1 as a medical orderly in Flanders - more specifically in Torhout. Among his photographs, I have found a postcard depicting a young couple (André and Diana Deketelaere). On the back of the postcard, both have written and signed a message of great thanks to my grandfather for a great service he had apparently rendered to them. I do not know what service that may have been - it may have been related to his post at the hospital. The postcard was clearly important enough to my grandfather to keep it for all these years. Can you identify André and Diana? They look to be in their early 20's in the attached 1918 photograph. Are they related to you? If so, I would appreciate hearing about any stories that might help me understand what service my grandfather might have rendered to them. I am currently writing a biography about my grandfather and if there was a story from around 1918 that was still remembered in the Deketelaere family around Torhout that might relate to my grandfather, I would be most interested to hear it.

I have attached a copy of the postcard in the hope that it might assist to establish whether there is a link or not - do you recognise the two individuals?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers,
Matt in Sydney, Australia

Re: Jules and Emma Claeys from Aalter Belgium

Im searching for a way to get marriage information on my great grandfather and great grandmother.

This is the information I have at this moment:

Emma Heye born Oct 3 1882 in Ursel Belgium My great grandfather's information is very sketchy at best. I have located a ship log from ellis island stating If I have the two correct person. Which I believe with all my heart I do..

Jules (Julius)37 and Emma Claeys 27 came to America going to South Bend, Indiana Which Jules listed as going home. They came to port on Jun 13 1910 from place of residence Aalter Belgium.

Also listed was that Jules had come to America in 1892.

So what I want to locate is information on him. I have his death date and I know from what I see on the age from 1910 that he was born in the year 1872. I have no information on him. I am trying to see if I can find a marriage certificate when Emma and Jules (julius) got married to locate my great grandfathers birth records and parents. I am the last one with the Claeys surname in our family and so I would love to locate any living or non living relatives or information.
My Grandparents had two children. My grandfather Julius C.Claeys in South Bend, Indiana in 1911 and also had a daughter Clarice Im not to sure of her date of birth. Still doing that search.

I just hope someone can send me in the right direction or perhaps knows of anyone who may..

One other question Where does the Surname Heye come from? is that a Belgian name>?

I know this was lengthy and I appoligize and thank anyone for any help they may offer..

Sincerely,

Genna Claeys-Stafford
South Bend, Indiana

My Grandmother, Alice Cool was born in Belgium and came to the US when she was 20 years old. She was from Middlekerke. Her mother's name was Victorine Dewaele and her father's name was Joseph Lambert. All I know is that my great grandfather was in WWI and killed in action in 1916. He was a cabinet maker. I don't know much more about him, I believe he had a brother Oscar, two sisters, Maria and Rachele. I believe his father was a shoemaker named Camille Lambert and his mother was Mathilda Lambert. After Joseph died, my Grandmother came over to America with her mother, Victorine and step-father Cyril Feryn. If anyone has any information on this family please let me know. Thank you so much for your time!

Goodafternoon everybody,
I posted a question on the general board for information on a possible US relative of mine. In that message I also offered assistance for people trying to find ancestors in Zwevezele or Wingene West-Flanders. This offer might be particularly interesting to the people in this board. Of course I would appreciate also if anyone could try to help me with my own question.
Sincerely,
Roel Struyve
Zwevezele, Belgium

They were married in Egem somewhere around 1908. Jules came to America possibly with a friend by the name of Leopold Nieuwenhize from Meulebeke. I'm not sure of the spelling of Leopolds last name. The final destination for Jules and Irma was Kansas City, Mo. There occupations were farmers in the Missouri River bottoms. Thank you. Dee Branam

Searching for descendents of siblings of my Grandmother's family --
Henricus DeBlaere B. January 14, 1845 Coolscamp, Belgium married Maria Ludovica Mortaigne D. November 25, 1917 Herenthals, belgium
CHILDREN: Camile, Archie, Jules, Morris, Stillfield, Emory, Alois, Minnie, Emma (my grandmother, who married Remi DeNolf), Theophil and Juliana. All seemed to have been born in Lichtervelde. My grandmother died when I was young and I would like to learn more of her family and perhaps find descendents in Belgium. Archie and my grandmother are the only ones who came to the U.S. and stayed; believe Camiel and Jules came but went back. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I am looking for a family tree of the Noorenberghe family that extends prior to to the late 1800s or any other information from the Noorenberghe family. I am also looking for information to see if the Vannoorenberghe family is related to the Noorenberghe family. Any information would be good and I have looked for months but have not found much information. The Noorenberghe family was mostly from West Flanders but the Vannoorenberghe family is mostly found in France.

Peter Smith is my GGGGrandfather, he was a native of Flanders. Peter fought in the Napoleanic Wars on the French side. At the age of 49 yrs he left for Nova Scotia, Canada. At the age of 62yrs he married a girl from Guysborough County, Nova Scotia and had 5 children from that union. I am curious to know if Peter had another family while in Flanders?

DeMaricourt-DeMeurisse link

This one is for the history buffs as well as mystery lovers in Flanders. I am trying to find where, and when (between 1600 and 1800), a de Maricourt might have lived, either in the Gent or Bruges administrative areas. This is "The mystery" of the family - as it involves a de Maricourt daughter who refused to marry the one her father intended her to, and ended up becoming a Demeurisse. The de Maricourt name seems to be extinct (only 3 individuals in France). One de Maricourt became a Captain of the Compagnie Franches de la Marine in New France, but that is too far removed from the period involved here. Not surprising I have been hitting a brick wall. And there are no family members left to ask, except a 98-year old aunt who is deaf and nearly blind. Which is why my note here. Somebody out there might remember old family-gossip or... be an expert in this sort of loval legends. Every little bit would be very welcome. Thanks.

I am also trying to locate the only surviving sibling of my grandfather, Lodewijk Frans Raes. Lodewijk died in the US in 1939, and his obituary indicated his brother, Jan Karel Raes was still alive. The Raes family lived in Knokke since the 1830s so I hope that is where he lived in 1939.
Jan Karel Raes was born 19 Dec. 1872 in Knokke. I have no other information other than he was alive in 1939. Any help anyone can offer in tracing him is greatly appreciated.

I am looking for help locating possible cemeteries or Catholic churches in Knokke associated with my grandparents and their ancestors. Both Raes and Bernahert familes resided in Knokke since about the 1820s. My grandfather, Lodewijk Raes, emigrated with Leona Bernhaert to the US in 1895. Buried somewhere in the Knokke area are his ancestors. His father was Jacobus Frans Raes and his mother was Joanna Schram. I have names of parents and children going back to about 1830 on both sides in Knokke.
I believe both families were Catholic. I hope to visit the area this coming December and would like to locate graves. Can anyone suggest where burials from the 1830s might be in Knokke area, or the local prominent Catholic church?

My grandfather Henri Joseph Meuleman was born in Ruddervoorde in 1899. His lineage is Gustaaf, Bernardus, Amandus, Carolus, Ludivicus, Joannes Meuleman. His family was mostly from Oostcamp. I am researching his line and have found these surnames: Ballengeer, Bauwens, Christiaens, Cornelis, de Grande, de Rudder, de Smet, de Wispelaere, Gailliaert, Mortier, Piceu, Van Ooteghem, and Vermeulen. I have been able to get documentation and dates to Ludivicus Meuleman (1706) on the Meuleman line. They are from West Vlaanderen mainly Oostcamp, Ruddervoorde, Beernem, Loppem (Lophem), Waardamme, and Knesselare. I would appreciate any information on these surnames and I would be happy to share any information that I have.
Please e-mail me: hajordan@cableone.net

Well, I am now searching for more information on another of my Grandmother's brothers and his family. His name was Jules De Blaere. I know nothing about him. I do have three pictures of him and it appears he married and had at least 6 children - all girls. It is possible he came to Canada around 1905 - 1915 or to the U.S. and returned to Belgium. My grandmother died when I was 10, so had no one to ask about her family. He would have been the son of Henricus DeBlaere and Maria Ludovica Mortaigne . They lived in Lichtervelde. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please contact me at VBasford@aol.com Thanks. Ginny in Florida USA

Mucha suerte,

Hendrik Vandeginste

Hi, I'm researching the Blomme family. My great-great-grandfather was Bruno Blomme who married Maria Ludovica Gaedeyne (or Cadenne?)-Maria was born in 1845, died in 1922. Their children were Paul, Arthur, Oliver, Leontine, Ceasarine and Charlotte. My great Grandfather was Oliver Blomme who married Julma Beels (born Feb.2,1887). I know Arthur had 7 kids, Oliver had 7 kids and Leontine had 2 (?) . If these names ring a bell, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks!

He came to Canada through the United States in 1912 and settled in Saskatchewan where he married Helenie Hazzard.

From what I have gathered, I think he came from a family of 8 and one of his brothers Cyril came over to Canada and settled in Saskatchewan as well.

Any information on his ancestors or siblings would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Jessica

Church records, Beselare

Seeking a little advice.

I have been doing my research at a Family History Center run by the Church of Latter-Day Saints. They microfilmed the Catholic Church Registers of Beselare, West Flanders, Belgium covering years 1752 to 1793. They also filmed an index to the Church records which covers the whole period: 1616-1808. Since I don't have microfilm access to actual records before 1752 I wonder who has this information and how should I contact them?

I found the address of Sint Martinuskerk in Beselare but I believe this church was only built in the 1920's. The original church was destroyed during World War One. Could the old Church Registers have survived?

The LDS microfilmed the Church Registers at the Arhives of West Flanders in Bruges. Would the Archives also have in their possession the Beselare Church Registers from before 1752?

If I do start writing letters I expect to be at it for some time to come. Would it be acceptable to write in French? (or in English?). Unfortunately, I do not speak Flemish.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Dead in Puerto Real (Cádiz) on 1936. His brothers: Francisco, José Luis, Elisa, Margarita, Aurora, Rómulo y Remo.
They were all children of:
ELISA WAFLAR JIMÉNEZ, born in Niebla (Huelva) circa 1850 and dead in Ronda (Málaga) circa 1935.
Any help would be very grateful.
Greetings.

Paulus VANDAMME/Regina GYSELS

I'm looking for any information on my VANDAMME line. Paulus VANDAMME and Regina GYSELS married in 1679 in Langemark. I have many names and dates of children but will stick to the direct line I'm researching. Paulus and Regina had Jacobus Judocus in 1718 who married Jeanne SAMYN. One of their children was named Jean Baptiste born in 1757. He married Regina VANDEPORTAELE in Moorslede. One of their children was named Philippe Jacques born in 1785. His wife was Catherine SIX and one of their children was named Carolus Ludovicus born in 1815. Carolus married Rosalie DECLERCQ and had one child named Stephanie born in 1856. Stephanie married a Mestdagh and moved to Jackson, Jackson Co., Michigan, USA. If anyone knows anything in addition to this please let me know.
