Penny, in answer to your first question: Wolfskirchen is department Bas-Rhin. In answer to your second implied question: the French recorded names such as Karoline with a "C" regardless of the person's origin. The Germans tended to uses the harder sounding "K", again regardless of origin. I usually go by the signatures on the document. French signatures are distinctly different from German ones.
Go to your local FHC and order film #1069793, "Naissances 1825-1862 Mariages 1794-1820" This will contain your answer. BTW, if the child was illegitimate then the father's name will not be recorded (at least in all of my transcribing, I've never seen it done).
