Cordialmente, tu posible parienta, Adela.

I am looking for anyone with information about the family of Manuel and Plazida Laclaustra. They were originally from Spain and lived in Oloron Sainte Marie, France before imigrating to America in 1903. They had 8 children that immigrated with them: Emilia, Antonio, Leanore, Manuel, Gnarnation, Seraphin, Emile, and Henri. Manuel moved back to france in the early 1920's after Plazida died and returned to America in 1927. Immigration records at this time indicate that he had been living with sons in Bizanos, France. It looks like one of them could have been named Manager. I would love to find information on these sons, or find someone with knowledge of the family in France. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Looking for Refo or Riveau family

I need help finding out about Caesar Refo, my grandfather's ggfather, who was born in Bordeaux around 1791. He came to the U.S. in the early 1800s, and married Eliza McLeo, also from France (although her name doesn't sound French), in 1814. Caesar died in 1845, and is buried at Magnolia Cemetery, Augusta, GA. Eliza died in 1859, and is buried in the same cemetery.

A kind person on another Rootsweb list suggested that I look into the Riveau region around Bordeaux. She noticed also that several men in the family were named "Baron" (my grandfather was Henry Baron Refo), and pointed out that nobility would have good reason to leave France after 1789. My relatives have often said that the name Refo was probably something else in France.

My interest is especially piqued at this time, because this summer my kids and I will be visiting my aunt Burney (nee Refo) who lives near Bordeaux. I'd like to explore the places our ancestors came from.

Thanks for any help or leads you can give me!

Genealogist wanted - Bordeaux

My great grandfather, Valentin(e) Mochel was born in France on 6 Feb 1847. Our belief is he was born in or near Bordeaux.

Hi,
I had records from St Paul's Cathedral in Bordeaux from the late 1790's and lost all in the hurricane. I am from St Bernard Parish in Louisiana.
Looking to replace baptism for son and daughter of Jean Bertrand Janffrau and Therese Constant in 1792.
I also had marriage for Jean and Therese Janffrau. We spell it Jeanfreau in Louisiana. My grandmother was a Jeanfreau.
I would appreciate any help or advise as to replacing these records or any Janffrau records the church may have to offer.
Please e-mail me at sgvjada@hotmail.com
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Sally

LaPorte Bordeaux 1888

I am researching my ancestor Bernard LaPorte, his wife Marie Dabezies (also seen it Davezies)and their 2 daughters Marie Anna LaPorte and Jeanne Marie Appoline LaPorte. Bernard LaPorte was born around 1856 in France and married Marie Dabezies and had two daughters before immigrating to New Orleans, Louisiana, USA from the port of Bordeaux, France in October of 1888 on the ship Havre. His wife and daughters followed in November of 1889 from the port of Bordeaux, France on the ship Havre. Marie Dabezies was born about 1857, Marie Anna LaPorte was born about 1883/1884 and Jeanne Marie Appoline LaPorte was born about 1888.

I am looking for where in France they lived before leaving for America. If anyone has any information that may help me, including where in France there were large concentrations of LaPortes please email me at blueyedtyger@gmail.com or reply to this post.

Thanks.

-Laura

Looking for information on Francesco Castillo aprox DOB 1874. Wife was Maria, no surname known before marriage. Brother was Jose Castillo who came to Los Angeles prior to 1908.

"Frank" was born in France, Maria (AKA Mary) in Spain. 3 children immigrated with them, Frances, Lena and Gabriel. All born in France except Lena, she was born in Spain according to records. 4th child was born in USA.

I cannot find death records for Frank and Mary, but am fairly sure they died in USA. Records I did find show a number of mutations of surnames as years progressed, Cosdello, Castelle and Costello.

My Great Grandfather Arnaud Faurie came to America in 1911 and settled in San Francisco and later Monterey County. His father was listed as Jean Faurie and his mother's maiden name was Idiart. His birthplace was Ainharbe (Ainharp) and last residence was Espes.
Two sisters that I can determine: Gracieuse Higueret and Marie Anne (possibly married a Dupouy). Is there ANYONE who can give me any more family background? Anyone out there with family connections to this California Faurie?

GRANGES D'ANS, NEAR HAUTEFORT, CEMETERY

Granges d'Ans is a hamlet about 6 kilometers from Hautefort,on the D704, in Dordogne, Aquitaine. It used to be a proper village, with three grocers, a butcher, two bakeries, a school, a church, etc. Now, all businesses are gone, the school is closed and the church is in use only one Sunday a month. Other hamlets nearby are: La Meynardie, La Fayolle, Lachaud (also a common surname), and Lavivier.

My daughther and I spent a couple of afternoons transcribing all of the legible tombstones and grave markers. We also copied the names from the WWI and WWII memorial. I have left off all accents, as they do not alwys come out correctly on the receiving side. They are written in order of appearance. Hope it can be of help to someone:

WWI and WWII marker;

"Granges d'Ans a ses enfants morts pour la France" :

Golfier, Louis
Lachaud, Georges
Mercier, Baptiste
Lachaud, François
Favard, Henri
Granger, Jean
LaGuionie, Pierre
LaFont, Raoul
Romauld, Justin
Vareillas, Emile
Geraud, Henri
Bellingard, Pierre
Lacheze, Emile
Coustillas, Maurice
Granger, Lucien
Joffre, Edouard
Mercier, Pierre
Lacheze, Maurice
Bellingard, Joseph
Dupuy, Emile

"Morts, Guerre 39-45":

Blanc, Henri
Ferachou, Marcel
Stauffer, Ernest

CEMETERY:

Most tombs are family tombs, without individual names.
Looking for Nicolle ancestory

Hi, I'm looking for information on my great parents who were from France and migrated to North America in the 1880 (?) time frame.

My great grandfather's name was Jules Nicolle. My dad said he was born and raised in Bordeaux and worked on his father's farm until he was in his 20's when he migrated to Canada and then to Michigan. He had a son, named Daniel, who came too. Her married a woman named Leonie and they later moved to Minnesota.

My great grandmother was Justine Morinier(?). Every legal American document (death registration, my grandmother's birth record, my grandmother's baptism records et al) I have of bearing her maiden name on it has it spelled differently. She was born in Belguim but according to my father, she was raised in Bordeaux as well. My dad also mentioned my great granparents families knew each other in Bordeaux. While she was quite young, she was a teacher. My understanding is the whole family moved to Canada, where she married Jules Nicolle and then settled in Michigan.

I'm hoping someone will read this if there are any relatives left of these families and contact me. My brothers and I are the only blood Nicolle's left, that I know of, here in the States.

Am researching the surname Lauga. I have a ggg grandmother by the name of Martha Lauga who married Frederick John Thompson in England in 1802. There was also a Daniel Hurst Lauga who married the same year and location. In 1760 there was a Peter Lauga and Mary Hurst who married in 1766 in Hampshire, England. LAUGA is not an English name, nor have I found any other entries same time frame. Am now looking toward Basque Country in Southern France. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Louisiana Free People of Color - Emigrants To Bordeaux

Hello,

I am trying to find information about Free People of Color from Louisiana who emigrated to Bordeaux during the 1800s, circa 1820-1870.

I have read that some of these Free People, particularly those from New Orleans travelled back and forth from New Orleans to Bordeaux, and that some of them settled permanently in Bordeaux.

I am searching specifically for any and all information about Camille THIERRY and Michel SELIGNY, Camille's half-brother.

Camille THIERRY, was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1814, and died in Bordeaux in 1875. He lived in Paris for a while, but settled in Bordeaux circa 1850. He was a writer of some note; his book of poetry, _Les Vagabonds_, was published in 1874 by a Bordeaux publisher.

Michel SELIGNY was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1807. He died in 1867, but it is not certain if he died in Bordeaux or Paris. He is said to be buried in the same tomb as Camille THIERRY (in Bordeaux). Michel SELIGNY was also a published writer of some note.

Michel SELIGNY had a son, Arthur Angelo SELIGNY, born circa 1845 (not sure if in New Orleans or Bordeaux) who is said to have made his home in Bordeaux.

Michel SELIGNY was the husband of my great-great-great-grandmother, Adele Ferdinand LIATAUD.

Can someone recommend resources (periodical, books, microfilm) or a library that may house records of emigrants from Louisiana who came to Bordeaux circa 1820-1870?

I look forward to your reply. Thank you.

Roslyn T. Albert-Sandronsky
Sacramento, California

I am researching my great grandfather, Francois Regla. He was originally from Northern Spain, so he could have changed his name from Francisco after he moved to Oloron-St. Marie. He married a seamstress named Andrea (or Andressa) Serrano, whom his family in Spain thought was beneath them, and they disowned him. Premsumably, that's when the couple went to Southern France. They had two children, Pierre, and a daughter who died young. Pierre, my grandfather, was born in June 1881; Francois died when he was young and his mother then married George Marraco.

Any assistancae would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have traced my husband's ancestry back to Tonneins, France to Jean Bousquet and wife, Isabel Hilaret, in the year 1636.
My son will be traveling through France in a few weeks and will be in the Tonneins area. Any recommendations on where he might find information, ie birth, marriage death records? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Felicia Bousquet

Greetings.

I am looking for any information regarding the LACOSTE families which lived in Bordeaux in the 18th century. My ggggrandfather, Jean Baptiste LACOSTE, was born in Bordeaux in 1778/9, immigrated to America in 1807, and lived in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Boston, Massachusetts. His children included Costilla, Mary Jane, Petro, Jean Henri, and Susan.

I have found many LACOSTE's listed in the parish records of L"Eglise de St. Nicolas. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Steve Armstrong
