The following family lived in North Carolina.

Johan Nickel Michael/Michel came to America on the ship 'Glasgow' under Master Walter Sterling. Three hundred forty-nine Palatines left Rotterdam, stopped in Cowes, England and arrived in Philadelphia, PA on Sept 9, 1738.
Could it be possible that the Michels you seek fits into this family?)

Johann Nickel's (b. 1696, known as Nicholas) will was recorded in Davidson Co., NC 1786.
Nicholas Michael/Michel's wife's name is unknown, but there were at least 3 sons and one daughter: John, Nicholas and Fredrick.
The only info I know regarding the daughter is that she married Martin Walk [Wallach].
This Martin Wallach is believed to have been the immigrant of his family line, and lived in Culpepper Co., VA. His son, Martin Jr., settled in Rowan Co., NC.

Martin Walk, Jr. 1737-1791 m. 1767 Elizabeth Fiscus.
His sister, Barbara Walk 1735-1815 m. Johann Wilhelm Franck (Frank).

This information came from one of my family books that is primarily about the Albion, Edwards Co. County, IL family connections, including surnames Michels and Stafford.

Many of the original settlers of Edwards Co., IL married into each other's families and these large families connect to each other in many different directions. However, I don't know how the IL Michels family that married into the Stafford family directly descends from the North Carolina Michels line. Since the Michels name enters into my Stafford line by marriage, I haven't dug that deeply into it.

The book I have is very good in giving immigration background on the original settlers, but the information regarding the Michel's history elaborates only on those connections with surnames that originally immigrated with family such as:
LOPP, WAGGONER/WAGNER,YOUNTS.

More information could be learned about the Michel's families by exploring in Edwards Co., IL, but at this point, the only part I can provide any more information on is my Edwards Co., IL connection. I don't think this is likely useful to you, but will include it.

Interestingly, Harvey Michels' father, Moses had a brother by the name 'William'. It would have been helpful to know the name of Moses' father, who I imagine was the one who relocated to IL, but his mother was remarried to a Jaques by the 1850 census plus the IL area and other census records are not available prior to then. Without this name, I'm not able to track him back to NC and make a connection to those others mentioned in this book.
