Xainte Dupont (1596-1680) was the wife of Zacharie Cloutier, one of the earliest French settlers of Quebec. Xainte is also my 9th great-grandmother. A number of public members of Ancestry.com have traced Xainte Dupont's ancestry through several generations, and ultimately to Jean II du Pont-L'Abbe (1422-1478), a minor Breton nobleman. There is ample documentation of the existence of Xainte Dupont, at one end of this genealogical chain, and of Jean II du Pont-L'Abbe, at the other end. But I have found NO documentation for any of the supposed ancestors in between. These people are: Francois Dupont (1450-1508), supposedly a son (illegitimate, perhaps?) of Jean II; his son Pierre Dupont (1486-1515); Pierre's son Charles Dupont (1515-1570); Charles' son Denis Dupont (1540-1575); and Denis' son Paul-Michel Dupont (1569-1608), who is supposedly Xainte Dupont's father. Does anybody know of any documentary proof that any of these people existed? It's of interest to me because Jean II's ancestry can be traced back another 45 or so generations to the Emperor Caesar Augustus. Many thanks!
