My great grandfather George Albert Refault was born in Paris in 1843. The birth record was apparently destroyed in the Paris Archives fire of 1872. Without knowing the District in which the birth took place it appears to be almost impossible to find the birth entry, and thus his parents.

The family name Refault together with the alternatative spelling is found (so far) in BMD Events (Actes) between 1597 and 1868 distributed in a number of Départements in France. Most of the Actes took place in Cher (18), Indre (36), Indre-et-Loir (37) and Loiret (45). These areas are collectively known as Centre.

I haven't, so far, been able to tie any of these apparent ancestors back to my great grandfather.
