Looking for Junot Ancestors

I believe my family was originally from France. Records in Louisiana, USA, indicate that Jean Marie Junot was born in France possibly a city named Belgard, and perhaps went to Mole St. Nicholas on the French Island of Santo Domingue (Saint Domingue). He had a son born about 1777 named Jean Baptiste Junot. There is conflicting information as to where Jean Baptiste was born. Some records indicate Cabo, France, but I do not believe there is or was a city by that name in France. I believe that Cabo is Spanish for Cape, and I believe Mole St. Nicholas is a cape.

If anyone can help guide me to places to look for information I would really appreciate it because I can not find any information so that I can trace my ancestors in France.

Thank you.
Karen

John of Briene retired to Champagne. He was a long time knight in France before he became King of Jerusalem during the Crusades, I believe during the time of Richard the Lionheart. He was also Emperor of the Byzantine Empire for a short time at the age of 80. If anyone has any knowledge of biographies of him, or resources in France to locate possible gravesite, portrait and other info regarding him, to inlude manuscript collections.

I have found in my stack of stuff a book written in the teens about the French Soldiers that served in our War for Independence. The title is Soldiers and Sailors of France in the American War for Independence (1776-1783) by Captain Joachim Merlant Translated from French by Mary Bushnell Coleman. Charles Scibner's Sons, New York 1920.
I have seen the French version in the Iowa Historical Society Library in Iowa City, Iowa I didn't get much out of it trying to translate French into English. I have found out that the LDS has the translated version by Coleman on microfilm. I have not pursued this, been busy.
Maybe this will give us some new information on Charles DeQuasie

Thanks
Bill Wyman
My Great Grandparents were John George and Catherine Leveline.

Census records have them coming from Bavaria in 1835 or 1836, first to New York and then to Hamilton, Ohio. I can not locate them on any passenger lists.

I have never run across anyone else with this surname that was not a descendant of theirs. I think the name was changed somehow when they arrived in the US.

I do know that some people with this name came from France and went to the UK in the early 1800's..

Would anyone have suggestions as to what the surname in Germany or France might have been?

The name was pronounced as Leave Line.

Any help will be most appreciated.
Lapierres in Haudrecy

My grandmother's ancestors came from the little town of Haudrecy, just outside Charleville-Mezieres. My greatgrandfather was August Lapierre, who married Elizabeth Lindeman in Cleveland, Ohio. He was born in France, as were his parents Joseph Lapierre and Henrietta Choderlot. (There is some conflict about the spelling of both her names.) Joseph's father was Isadore J. Lapierre. About 35 years ago, I wrote to Haudrecy in care of the postmaster, in hopes of contacting any relatives. He told me that the remains of the family grist mill were still there, and some cousins of mine still lived there. I never heard anything from them unfortunately. Perhaps their English is as non-existant as my French. I would treasure any info anyone could provide. Thanks!

I have unconfirmed information that an ancestor, Jean Baptiste Francois Veluzat came to America with Count Jean Baptiste Rochambeau, and moved to Kentucky following the war. A Francis Veluzat is located in the 1810 Lincoln County KY census.

I think perhaps that his name was spelled differently before coming to America. Any ideas on how to learn more about him will be greatly appreciated.

Charlie

Hi Hubie!
I realized that there may be some confusion with the Eugenies- Eugenie Aimee (1850-1915) married Jean Baptiste CLAUSE in 1871- Her second marriage was to Omer Auguste BERGERON in 1887. Her mother was Honorine Eugenie BARILLEAUX, married to Francois Victor Adolphe VIGREUX so our link would have to be thru those two- Unfortunatly that's all I have ! Why did these people have so many names??? By the way, I did an internship at WDSU in 1985- Were you there then?

My wife has an ancestor who was a Captain in Napoleon's army, whose name was Charles Aubertin. He was a prisoner of war in England, and married in 1815 at Andover. He had two children there, then returned to France alone in 1822 and could have remarried. We would be pleased to hear from any descendants or anyone who might know the whereabouts of any Aubertin families in France. Did they anciently come from a particular area, as we have no idea in which area to look? We now live in Australia.Thanking you for any help you may be able to give us. Kindest regards.
Jean Baptiste DAUBIGNE (1727-) Champagne

Bonjour á tous..

I am looking for documentation on a certain d'Aubigné family from CHAMPAGNE (region).

According to military muster rolls from the Swedish garison of Stralsund, Pommeria

JEAN BAPTISTE DAUBIGNE

served there as a corporal in various regiments from ca. 1749 to 1766.

He was born 1727-29 in Champagne (region) and as a catholic. I am looking for the names of his parents.

I have already been searching several genealogical sources among others a census from 1775 without luck.

I have been informed that there has been published a document, named Recherce de la noblesse de Champagne 1673? but it has not been possible for me to get hold of it.

As far as I understand there might be members of your own genealogical society, investigating various families in Champagne and maybe the D'AUBIGNÉ ancestry too.

I would be very gratefull for a reply on my request. You may answer me in French if you like. I am more than willing to pay a fee, if necessesary.

Je vous souhaite une bonne soirée avec mes amitées.

Aage Skjelborg

Grefsenveien 105 B

0492 Oslo

Norvége

Home Page:

Texte francais:

http://home.c2i.net/w-217484/daubigne1.htm
