There is a very new Website located in Stark County, Ohio. Canton is the county seat. Louisville, Ohio is a frequently mentioned rural village, east of Canton. Many came through Meadville or Frenchtown in Crawford County, Pennsylvania for a generation of so, before entering Ohio.
The real action is in the bulletin board, but my pages are at home. Here are some more organized offerings.
Many of these names are in Terrence M. Punch's and Art Rhyno's article, "Nova Scotia's Montbeliard Names", as reprinted in the Nova Scotia Genealogist.
Then there is the alphabetical list of emigrants from Montebeliard prior to 1793. Unfortunately, of over 100 names, only one is to America.
Then there is the census in 1821 in these cities: Bians, Brevillers, Chagey, Champey, Chenebier, Coiseveaux, Eschavannes, Hericourt, St Valbert
Then there are the Passenger Lists
- When: From >> To [Who]
- 1828: Harve to NY City >> Frenchtown, PA [Etienne, Hediet, Moulin]
- 1828: Harve to NY City >> Pennsylvania [Faivre, Persan, Parisot, Violent]
- 1829, 1830, 1833, 1834, 1837, 1838, 1844, 1847: Harve to NY City [Ballizet, Becanson, Belin, Certier, Chardet, Cheodore, Chreten, Clere, Criballe, Dellemoiner, Despierres, Devaux, Devoisse, Dodane, Donzelot, Favret, Frazeran, Genat, Georges, Gerardy, Gladieux, Guillemot, Heide, Heidet, Heydet, Jeunet, L'Allemand, Lamielle, Lanoir, Marchand, Monnin, Monnot, Nageotte, Palmer, Paradis, Pellot, Pequignot, Perrey, Peugot, Pillot, Polly, Renish, Richard, Robillot, Salles, Saunier, Simon, Sordelet]
- 1833: Upper Saxon to Cincinnati [Daval, Faivre]
- 1844: Switzerland >> Ohio [Frene]
Some of my French are in this pattern. But they settled in Mowrystown, White Oak Twp, Highland County, Ohio. I have been reading their excellent stuff, but I am afraid to start interacting due to lack of time. But you folks, carry on!!
Well, it's past suppertime. Try it.
