I tried RECEL, which is a very good tool if you can't quite read a name of a French town http://recel.geonames.org/. Interestingly enough, there are no towns in france that start with "SH". I'm wondering if the census recorder heard "SH" but the town really started with "CH" which makes a kind of "SH" sound sometimes in French....
