Surnames: Devall or DeVall
I'm looking for anyone with the surname of Devall living in the Languedoc-Roussillon Region of France. I assume that they would primarily be within the Gard and Hérault departments around Montpellier and Nimes. My part migrated to New York State, most likely during the 16th or 17th Century. I know there were some in Ulster County (near New York City), but mine were mostly in Wayne and Ontario counties near Rochester. Right now, I'm trying to get beyond my 3rd great grandfather who was born in the early 1800s, close to the beginning of the U.S. Census. Therefore, any further research from there is few and far between. Both of his parents were born in New York though, so the apparent connection to France will be further than that point. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. :0)
