Classification: Query
Surnames: AUDUBON, DE ROCH-ER, MILLS, GUILLET, GULLETT-E, LAROCHE, ROCHE
I've traced my mother's name, GULLETTE,back to William GULLETT (B. ABT. 1649)who married Susanna MILLS on 1 Nov 1674 at Manokin, Somerset, Maryland, USA. This was a Huguenot settlement.
Because of family lore linking us to J. J. AUDUBON, the painter, I have studied his pedigree and find interesting facts in Nantes and the nearby village of Coueron, where his father owned the villa "La Gerbeterier".
I am aware that GULLETT has to be a misspelling of a French name, but what is the name? AUDUBON's father had a close friend named Francois GUILLET of Nantes who certified his identification when he died. The name Frank GULLETTEE has been repeated several times in my family, along with the names AUDUBON and JOHN JAMES.
Family lore mentions ancestors "Lord GULLETT and wife Eloise DE ROCHERR" - or whatever. I have been to Coueron and found villas with ROCHE in name, including "La ROCHE-GUILLET". I was sorely hampered by not knowing French.
Can anyone help on this?
