Military exiles from Poland - Galkowski

Apparently a relation of mine from Baranowo, Ostroleka, Poland, immigrated to this area of France after the 1831 revolt by the Polish against the Russian ruling that area. He was in the military and therefore likely to be 'punished' for his activities. It appears that a cousin also went in exile to that area. I suspect that there were many additional Polish militia ending up in that area. If anyone is related to Marcin Galkowski, or any other memebers of the militia who went in exile in Baranowo area, there are a good number of researchers who would love to hear from you

GULLETT/E Surname

I've traced my mother's name, GULLETTE,back to William GULLETT (B. ABT. 1649)who married Susanna MILLS on 1 Nov 1674 at Manokin, Somerset, Maryland, USA. This was a Huguenot settlement.

Because of family lore linking us to J. J. AUDUBON, the painter, I have studied his pedigree and find interesting facts in Nantes and the nearby village of Coueron, where his father owned the villa "La Gerbeterier".

I am aware that GULLETT has to be a misspelling of a French name, but what is the name? AUDUBON's father had a close friend named Francois GUILLET of Nantes who certified his identification when he died. The name Frank GULLETT-E has been repeated several times in my family, along with the names AUDUBON and JOHN JAMES.

Family lore mentions ancestors "Lord GULLETT and wife Eloise DE ROCH-ER" - or whatever. I have been to Coueron and found villas with ROCHE in name, including "LA ROCHE-GUILLET". I was sorely hampered by not knowing French.

Can anyone help on this?

Anne C.

Frouin family-- from Maine-et-Loire (pre-1872), not Charente?

I am looking for the birth dates and places and parents' names of Rene Frouin (b. ca. 1839-1840) and Thais Ernestine Dutilloy (b. ca. 1838-1841), parents of Georges Rene (1872-1948), Jeanne Marie (1873-?), and Marie Madeleine (1875-1963) Frouin. The three children were all born in Aigrefeuille, in Charente Inferieure, but I can find no record of either parent's birth or their marriage in that region. However, according to a margin note on his birth record, Georges married Marie Julie Frouin, in 1903 in Coron, Maine-et-Loire. Since her last name is the same, I now wonder if perhaps she were a cousin and if the family originally came from that area. Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I am an American whose father was stationed in France at the end of WWII. He died in Houdon and was burried there until 1948. While there he made wonderful friends with a family who lived just outside Orleans. Their name was Branlard and they had two daughters Jeanette and Genvieve. My family wrote to them but after the old parents died in the 1980s we lost touch. I am traveling to France in May and would love to meet the daughters or the grandchildren.
I do not know their married names but know the home was in Saint Jean De La Ruelle. I have many pictures that my father sent home of the family. Can anyone help me
carol Jones Stryhal carol503.aol.com
Bonjour, Je sollicite votre aide.

Jacques E.
Surname BROSSARD from St. Etienne, Loire, France

My 2nd Great Grandfather was Pierre Brossard, born in in St. Etienne, circa 1841 or 1842. According to an earlier family member who researched our ancestors, his mother's name was Marian (de) MAYENNE.

Leaving some of his family, he emigrated to the United States early enough to have served in the Civil War (1860 - 1865) for the Union as a Private with the Missouri Reserves. He later became a physician and farmer in Bonhomme Township, Missouri. He married Cornelia Wilhelmena TISING of Cincinnati, Ohio. They had about nine children: JULIA, MARIAN, CORNELIA, PIERRE, JR., MARTHA DORETTA, AMBROSE OTTO, IDA, WINIFRED, BERNARD. Pierre BROSSARD Sr. died in 1898 of tetanus.

At one point, one of his female relatives in France died. She intended leaving him her estate as long as he and his family changed his religion to match hers (Protestant?). Pierre and one of his older daughters traveled to France to collect the inheiritance only to find it a pittance which barely covered their expenses.

I would be grateful for any information about Pierre Brossard's family in St. Etienne, Loire, France.

Thank you.

Meredith

Looking for the parents of Antoine Bennion (one of many spellings) who arrived in Virginia aboard the ship Peter and Anthony, with a group of Hugunot Refugees on 20th of Sept. 1700. Antoine was born 1683 in Maine-et-Loire, France. [ I do not have proof of this.]

I have found on two different ancestry world trees, that William Martin Benin(?) born 1661 in Maine-et-Loire and Judith (Chastain) Agee born about1660 in Dauphine, France, were the parents of Antoine. I have been unable to find anything on the internet or in my local libraries to confirm or deny this.

If anyone can help, I would be most grateful. I am willing to share what I have with you. Also if any one who lives in Maine-et-Loire would be willing to try to correspond with me, I would welcome your email.
Thank you.
Bodineau in Chavagnes, Maine-et-Loire

I have been working on the films from the FHL on St-Germain-de-Chavagnes, tracing my Bodineau family back to the mid-1600's. Anyone else working on this line in Chavagnes? It ties in to Aubineau, Gilbert, Boucler, Trigory, Taillee....

Does anyone have any idea if there are transcriptions for the Grand Cemetery there?

Looking for mother's paternal ancestors (La Corbiniere) who originally came from France.

Any one in France who has information on the La Corbiniere family, please e-mail me. She always said there were two brothers who came from France to St. Lucia, West Indies. One married a caucasian and returned to France. The other married a woman of African/Carib decent. So far, I got a list of names from the France GeneaNet and apparently they originated in the Vienne, Poitou Charentes area or the Vendee, Pays de Loir area.

Armand Prat

Marie Josephine Houlliere

I am trying to find information on a Marie J. Houlliere for my mother in law. Marie died in 1930 when my mother in law was 4 years old.

Marie would have come from near Laval, France. I believe she was from Martigne or Martigny (sp). She would have moved to Minnesota around 1918. She married Hiram Weston while he was part of the AEF and stationed in LeMans.

If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Thomas Flynn
Oakdale, Mn
mriqu@hotmail.com

DESSOMMES FAMILLE AU MEXIQUE

Bonjour,

We have created the Gadpaille Family Website thru MyFamily.com and four branches have ben established already with their roots originally from Nantes, France. We have also made contact with one Gadpaille, south of Paris, whom have furnished us with many names nevertheless, we have lost contact with her. We feel that there are many more information concerning the original Gadpaille Surname and we ask anyone in France if they know to please communicate with us thru our email address. One of the principal researches of the Gadpaille surname are HENRI GADPAILLE and the parents of Charles Gadpaille who worked with the Compañia Universal del Canal under Sr. Ferdinand De Lesseps and the initial construction of the Panama Canal in 1889+.
