Hi, I am looking for information on my g-g-g-grandfather
Charles Cronier b 1-15-1805 in Marseilles, France. I have recently learned that the name Cronier appears in Marseilles in Beauvaisis which is in Picardie; not in Marseilles in Southern France. As was then the custom, his father apprenticed him as a seaman in the French Navy, and in 1818 the youth shipped as a cabin boy on a frigate bound for New York. He deserted in New York in 1819 and signed aboard an American vessel bound for Charleston.
I have most of his information once he reached the USA, but I am looking for information on his family.
The spelling of the name varies from Cronnier, Cronier, Cronia and finally it ended up being Cronea.
Anybody out there know anything about him or his family?
Thank you
