I know it has been a very long time since you posted the request on this site, but aimee adelaid lebrun was my fourth great grandmother. I would love to have the photograph of her and anything about her. I thought I might have her parents as antoine lebrun and maria magdalena lamule but I find the info. very suspect. Please advise and please offer me a copy of the photo you have. thank you , Jeff Gueno, jggueno@cox.net

FINEL Massachusetts, E. - U.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In my research efforts regarding one EDWARD FINEL I wish to communicate with anyone researching the surname of FINEL that might have someone, or know of someone, who would have been in the Massachusetts U.S.A. area in the time period of 1700 to 1748. This man EDWARD FINEL 1, we believe had ancestry from France and was probably Christen Baptized named EDWARD, or his father was at this time. Because this man birthed a son named EDWARD FINEL; born 27 October 1748 in Massachusetts and because of the naming patterns in the U.S.A. at that time period he could have been named for his father, or his grandfather.

It is not known at this time in my researching if the first FINEL immigrated to the U.S.A., or if he might have been part of a military unit stationed in or near Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. I have been unable to determine any information relative to this man; birth, country of origin, death, or whatever.

The lady we believe to be the mother of his child could have also been a friend or relative of the real mother. Although, there are indicator’s that this lady was his mother in some of my findings.

Thank you

Irene, I know it has been a long time since you posted anything about the Lebruns (as far as I know)which is all the more reason to think you might have more on the Lebruns. My distant ancestors are both Aimee Adelaide Lebrun Fremaux and the father-son Vincent and Louis Lebrun. The former is paternal lineage the second from my Mother's side. Is there anything new that you might be willing to share. I thank you for considering answering back. Jeff jggueno@cox.net

Hello cousin :)
The name was Chauvin until they came to Quebec and then Natchitoches, LA and finally Monroe. De Lery (meaning from France) was added about 1650, when they were in Canada or moved to the us from Canada. The family had the largest most profitable plantation in the LA territory, and between sibblings, there were 7 plantations. Winter house in Vicksburg, family cemetary in Little Rock, and in the early 1900's, New Orleans.
Joseph De Lery Mason was my grandfather

Hello, If I recall there is a few names Used for Mathurin Banlier dit Laperle (Bonelisse,Bauslier,Lanthier).
He arrives in Quebec September 12, 1665 aboard the ship La Justice and is posted with The Saint-Ours company.
"September 29, 1665 he receives in Quebec, the Scapulary. We now have to identify him with the Laperle Name from the Carignan Saliere Regiment".
A few years ago I came upon a document that reported Mathurin Banlier dit Laperle as being a Franc Tireur (Sharp shooter) with his weapon. this was great asset for the regiment so he was viewed as "The pearl of shooters"!
The Laperle familly line is still in St-Ours and St-Denis Quebec.

Dear Emma, I am a descendant of Didier Numa Joubert and live in Sydney Australia. I have recently started to trace Joubert family and found your post on this site. I have the story of your ancestor written down and knew that he had been awarded a medal by Louis for his role as his physician. My Great Great grandfather's father was Auguste Alexis Franerp Joubert and his wife was Elisabeth Civadier. Didier Numa was their first son and he came to Australia in 1837. The family lived in Angouleme France. It is exciting to know your family live in the Canary Islands and show how adventurous they were in settling in foreign countries. DN Joubert had sugar plantations in New Caledonia and developed one of the most beautiful "garden" suburbs of Sydney, Hunters Hill.
I would like to hear from you if you have time to correspond. Good wishes from Sydney and your distant cousins
Suzie Walker

Claudia Reott...I'm very interested in your pictures and information. My father was Joseph James Reott, born in Pittsburgh in 1919. His father was also Joseph Reott and lived in California (LA area). Our information is in Jack Reott's book of which I have a copy. I visited Jack and his wife the last time I was in the area about 4 1/2 years ago. Their son lives in Chicago but I have never met him.
Can you tell me how we are related?
It's very interesting to hear about the history you, Poitou-Charentes have written here. I would like to know more and have always wanted to know about the European history of the family.
I have some information on Louis Menard,DOB 1704, with the same parents you have listed, given to me by my Grandfather. My information includes the name of his two wives and list of his decedents, and also tells a story of how he came to be in Louisiana: the French Crown wanted to colonize the Louisiana Territory, but with swampy conditions and poor soil the French people refused to relocate. In order to colonize this area, the French Crown started charging citizens with petty theft. Among the hundreds of people charged was Louis Menard. He was arrested for smuggling tobacco and salt, sentenced, charged, and boarded on the "Marschal D'Estrees". He arrived in New Orleans in 1719 at the age of 15 years. Louis was the son of a sailor and that was his trade when he bought a house at 22 Bourbon Street, New Orleans, Louisiana. He died in 1755 in Louisiana.

Hope that's helpful and not just a repeat of what you already know.

Hi Kaitie, I don't think our Isaac and yours are the same as you have his child born in France and we have baptism records that ours was born and bapt. in London. I think possibly that someone, as happens a lot with genealogy, has perhaps chanced upon a name and thought it may match. You would need to go back through emigration/ immigration and baptism records in USA, Canada and France to prove the connection. Hope this helps. Susie

Yes currently that is the information I have., Jean Deshamps born in 1690 in Rennes, Ille-et-Vilaine, Bretagne, France, son of Isaac but as of yet have not found any information verifying any of that. I do not have solid ground to even see the correlation between the Deschamps name and the Deshon name. But I'd like any information I can find on either of them. Are you thinking it is the same Isaac?? I did notice you have the same name as the wife of Isaac? I am just trying to make sure I have this correct as I have very little on them so far. Thanks for anything you may have.,

Kaitie

Hiya, Taken a look at the tree. I can't see a connection to our tree as our Jean(John) Deschamps , son of Isaac Deschamps b. 1666, was born in London after Isaac had fled France in 1684. Your Jean (John) Deschamps b. 1690 appears to have been born in France. Is this what you have?

Regards, Susie

I thought my tree was public? Well.. my mother was Mary Deshon originally from St. Joseph Missouri and her father was Paul Alvin Deshon 1916-1985 from Missouri. Under Isaac Deschamps 1666-1720 was his son Jean Deschamps born in 1690 and his son Augustine Deschamps 1740-1820. The name seems to change with John Deshon from North Carolina 1760-1804. He was Augustine's son. Can't wait to hear back from you. :D

I don't know anything about him except I have traced him backwards from my mother's dad's side who's surname is Deshon. My father was a Chater and we established that we are related.

I am puzzled by William Montellier (1810) and Jane Soar as I cannot connect this William Montellier to any of our Montelliers. Really need to find out his fathers name to establish a connection. Didnn;t you visit France a while ago and had a large amount of data from there???

Hi there, I'm the person that put the original post on here regarding Montelliers etc. My great x 5 Grandmother was Mary Magdelene Montellier 1757 - 1819 Marylebone, London.. I've had a quick look at your message but cannot find your Montelliers on my tree. Mine came over from France during the persecution and my Deschamps family (married into Montellier) came over in 1684 (Grandfather x 8)... I'm sure we must be connected somehow, but yet to find the connection! Susie Berry

It is not solidly proven if Henri was Vincent's father. However, while it hasn't been proven, there are good reasons to suspect Henri as the father of Vincent.
1. they are both from the same place in France
2. Henri was old enough to be Vincent's father
3. the spelling of their surname was (if not identical) very similar - and in those days there was no standardized spelling
4. there is no evidence to refute the possibility
5. Henri was of noble lineage because he has a recorded coat of arms (3 honey bees on azure background)... and I recall one of Vincent's children or grandchildren mentioning considerable wealth to include a "halberd" in his will.
I would like to think Henri is Vincent's father, but who knows. I've also recently seen people saying a Rene is Henri's father, but I know nothing of that.

Hi Celia, I've been able to access my records. William Montellier and Jane Soar were my Great x 3 grandparents; my line runs through Thomas (1840-1915), James May (1867-?), William Arthur (1896-1980) and James Brian (1934-1992). I've compiled a family tree from what I've got, plus details of dates of birth, death, marriage and occupations derived from copies of certificates from the old Somerset House records. Sadly, all it tells me about William and Jane Montellier is that they were living in 9 Bear Yard, St Clement Danes when their children were born in 1840 and 1846, and that William was a plumber in 1840 and a painter in 1846. Nonetheless, if you let me know how I can get this to you, we can do a swap of information. Like you, I'm keen to track the family back to Hugenot ancestors, or to link in any of the other Montelliers in the UK to the tree. Best regards, Clive M

Celia - delighted to find that this thread is still 'live'. I have a stack of records at home, dating back to the early 1800s and beginning with Montelliers living in Bear Yard, St Clement Dane's. I shall be in a position to spend some time on them at the end of next week, so shall endeavour to extract some key pieces and post them here, then work on putting them into a format which I could pass to you. I can't remember how many 'greats' the first ones are to me, but I am the last male of our particular line and have often wondered how many of the others I've found on Google are related in some way - most I'm sure given the rarity of the name. I've always assumed that a London family with a French name will have Hugenot roots, so am very excited to share information in the hope of confirming how we got here!

Clive M

You may want to look at the records that come out of the French Dauphiné as the family name PAVY is found there, and may have its origins in Pavia, Italy.
It just so happens that the Dauphiné was a refuge for Huguenots during the Religious Civil Wars that marked the 15 and 16th centuries.
The name RUMELES does not sound English either.

When searching for ancestors with names that have divers origins, it is necessary to carry out a phonetic analysis of the names.

Good Luck on your search in France.

Re French connections for the Pavy family: I have nothing definitive, but the following seems strongly suggestive.

Pavy Family

The possible Pavy connection to France remains very plausible but not definitively proven.

William Pavy married Jone Rumeles in Wiltshire, England, on 25 July (surrounding text implies the year 1689).

http://www.archive.org/stream/wiltshireparishr02phil/wiltshi...

Rumeles is obviously a French name, so maybe this was a Pavy recently arrived from France and still preferring to marry within his own ethnic group.

50,000 Hugenot refugees arrived in England from France beginning in 1685 (4 years before that marriage) when the French government resumed intense persecution of Huguenots that had begun in 1572.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huguenot#Britain_and_Ireland
http://www.huguenotsociety.org.uk/history.html

For the period 1891 to 1915 400 Pavys are recorded in France, mostly in the north, in particular, in the French Pais (like a county) de Calais. This is almost as near as one can get to England while still being in France.

http://www.geopatronyme.com/cgi-bin/carte/nomcarte.cgi?nom=p...

At around the same time, there were only 42 Pavys in England (the 1881 census). This shows that the name is most likely to have originated in France.

More than half of the 42 Pavys in England in the 1881 census were clustered around a small village called Pewsey in Wiltshire.

http://www.britishsurnames.co.uk/surnames/PAVY/1881census

That is the birth place of the Pavys who emigrated to South Australia in 1850 (31 years before that census) and settled around Milang, South Australia.

There is another family called Pavey, but their geographical distribution is different

http://www.britishsurnames.co.uk/surnames/PAVEY/1881census

They are also recorded in England from as early as 1524, about 50 years before the persecutionj of the Huguenots got under way in earnest in France. This family never seems to have had members living in Wiltshire.

http://www.pjohnp.me.uk/famhist/pavey.htm

Indications of various derivations of the name Pavy / Pavey are given at;

http://www.surnamedb.com/Surname/pavy

Since i am looking for my ancestors, i made some progress but there are many questions to be answered. One of my ancestors came from France. I have reason to believe that his ancestors lived in Brueil de Prailles. There is a picture of their farmhouse. Because there were protestants they had to get away from France. There was a party who tried to escape to England in 1686 but they were taken prison at the citadel of Saint Martin de Re and banished to Balk in Frisia in the Netherlands. From there they went back direction France and I have reasons to believe that they stayed a while in Ieper in Belgium (ca. 1720??)This escape is rather famous and a diary was written by one of the passengers: a certain Anne de Chauffepie. Now i try to find out if there was a Voulon, member of this party. Possible that he is my direct ancestor.

Greetings,

Harry Tanke domuslucis@zonnet.nl

Trying to trace ancestors...

My parents are Kenneth and Ola Sirlene (Davis) Bonee. I'm trying to trace my moms ancestry. Her parents were Roland and Dalmaticia "Dellie" (Hale) Davis. My moms maternal grandparents were John Silas Hale and Mary Francis (Millsap) Hale. That's as far as I've gotten. I can't get further than Roland Davis nor can I find any birth or death records for him. He passed away when my mom was 11 years old, late 1950's. He may also have been married to someone else or had a child before he married my grandmother. and I believe he may be buried in Marked Tree, Arkansas or nearby area. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Cacouault or Mimardiere family name

I have traced some ancestors back to a Pierre and Catherine Cacouault who lived in Soho, London in 1750s. I am not certain of when they arrived in the UK, but their 3 children were born from 1750-1757. The family changed their name to "Mimardiere" sometime towards the end of the 18th century. I know that there is a hamlet near to Saivres called "La Mimardiere". Does anybody know who lived there/what buildings were there during the 1700s? Catherine may originally have been Catherine Bardin de la Mimardiere - daughter of a Charlotte Bardin de la Mimardiere. Is anybody able to throw any light onto this family and the circumstances in which they arrived in England? Any help would be appreciated!

Re: MATHURIN BANLIER dit LAPERLE

I have been recently researching my wife's Banlier family. We have been working in online records from the city of Poitiers in recent months on one of her other lines. The best I can figure out so far is that there are no records of Banlier family members there. We are still looking. There are, however, quite a few in the nearby state to the west of Deux-Sevres. There is a ton of information on perish records from that time but it is all scanned old parish record books, and is very arduous looking through ech record. So, possible progress here, but not yet a breakthrough.
