Hello! I realize your post is from several years ago, so I hope you won't mind that I am replying to it. My grandfather's name was Jacob Joseph Mazo, and I believe that he came to NY sometime in the 1920's (give or take). He and several members of his family were Rabbi's. Different members of the family spell their last name "Mazo" or "Maza", probably depending on how whomever processed them through immigration chose to spell their names (when putting their Hebrew names into English).
