I have recently discovered that William Collins was born abt 1864 in Malta ((1891 UK census) From his marriage cert of 1888 his father was William Collins labourer. I came across the Malta Registry e-ordering site and got all excited about ordering the birth cert. My excitement soon dissolved when required fields were mothers name. The whole purpose of getting this cert was to find out who his mother was. Is there any way round this eg a BMD index. As William cannot be found on earlier census with parents this will be a brick wall without his birth details. I have looked at the Malta FH site but he doesn't appear on the military indexes.
