I just discovered that my 4th great grandmother was listed in the 1850 US Census as being Black and born in Holland. She was born in Holland in 1768 and, in 1850, she was 82 years old living in Newark, NJ. She disappears when 1860 census rolls around. Her son, Cato Thompson, was born in 1810 in NJ. I am assuming that she must have emmigrated from Holland before 1800. Does anyone know where I can find more Dutch records on her?
By the way, her name in 1850 was Ann Thompson, but I am notsure if this is an Americanized version of her Dutch name.
