Hi all,

Bob,
Your find of daughter Annigjen, born in Staphorst, was great! Combining that with the fact that mother Jacobjen was from Hesselingen (a hamlet belonging to Staphorst) made me wonder if there was more to be found in the church records of Staphorst.

And there was, lots of it!!!

First of all, there is a proclamation of their marriage with a little bit more information:

Staphorst, 07 Apr 1771:
Pouwel Willems van Veen, young man (i.e. not having been married before), born in Staphorst, with Jacobje Willems, young daughter, born in Hesselingen, both residing in Meppel, …....

So Pouwel was born in Staphorst!

Then I pieced together the births of the children in the right order (as you know, very important regarding the name giving rules)

1. Margjen (female)
Bapt. Meppel 16 June 1771

2. Willem (male)
Bapt. Meppel 06 Sep 1772

3. Annigje (female)
Bapt. Staphorst 26 Nov 1774

4. Albertus (male)
Bapt. Meppel 10 May 1778

5. Albertjen (female)
Bapt. Meppel 24 Sep 1780

The fathers of Pouwel and Jacobje are named Willem, and their mothers probably Margjen and Annigje (or a variation of those names)

I found the following:

Pouwel, bapt. Staphorst 28 Feb 1751
Son of Willem Alberts Pouwels and Marigjen Jans

Jakobjen, bapt. Staphorst 26 May 1743
Daughter of Willem IJsbrands and Anne Roelofs, (residing) in Hesselingen.

That makes Jacobje 8 years older than Pouwel, but that was not uncommon. Besides, there was no other Jacobje born to a Willem, at least not between 1741 and 1757....

When I wanted to look at the 1748 Staphorst census, I accidently ended up on the 1795 census and found to my surprise a Pouwel Willems, lodging house keeper, living in Hesselingen / Haming.

Could the family have returned to Hesselingen?
Fortunately, the death books of Staphorst are online and I found them.

These are the details of the family:

Pouwel Willems van Veen

Jacobjen Willems
Born Hesselingen, bapt. Staphorst 26 May 1743
