My great grandfather Desire (sp)Verdurman (birth 1858) arrived in New York April 25, 1881 from the Netherlands. Departure at Antwerp aboard the Nederland. His parents , Josephus Verdurman (birth 1824 in Boschkapelle) and Cornelia Taalman Verdurman (birth 1826 in Ossenisse) were also aboard. They were married 1852 in Boschkapelle, Netherlands. The 1920 USA census shows Desire living in Grand Rapids, Michigan and married to Minnie. Minnie also is listed as arriving from the Netherlands in 1881. I can remember Great-Grandmother Minnie living behind my Aunt Kate (Verdurman) and husband Joesph Bresina. I have no idea what Minnie maidan name was. I would welcome any information on my family.

I am looking for information on Vanderley, my father's birth certificate spells it "van der Leij." He was born in Groningen in 1908 and came to America with his parents, two sisters, and a younger brother. His father built houses in the Chicago area. When he was 16 or so, he went back to see relatives. I am trying to trace back my roots and to give my nieces and nephew a hint at their heritage.
I am trying to trace an ancestor, he was born in the Netherlands (no details as to where) in about 1848, he married a woman called Rachel Sapiere who was from Poland. They moved to the north of England and lived in Prestwich, Lancashire before 1876.

It is thought that they may have been Jewish but I am not certain about it.

They had 5 children all born in England - George, Abraham, Elias, Harriet and Celia.

The family story is that he deserted the Dutch Army and took his horse with him. It is also thought he deserted his family.

I realise it's a very long shot but does anyone have any pointers to help me try to find out more?

Thanks in advance

Duncan

Trying to find my wife's 3xgreat grandparents' origin. According to his obituary in New Orleans in 1847, Abraham GREEN, native of Amsterdam NL, arrived in New Orleans about 1817. Supposedly, he met his wife, Elizabeth ZACHARIAS or ZECHARIAS, on the boat. I'm fairly sure that GREEN is an anglicization of Abraham's surname. Is there an index of emigration from the Amsterdam area?

I have a good genealogy going back to Jan Roelfs Suck (m. 1663) but am missing lots of information about children, dates, spouses, and work.

I am particularly interested in finding out about all the children of Tamme Roelfs Suk, b. 1824, married in 1850 in Veendam, and died in 1889. One of those kids was Willem Suk, and another (name?) immigrated to the United States in the early 1920's. Who can help?
Note: All mentioned were the descendants of Sephardic Jews.

My de la Fuente ancestors emmigrated from the Netherlands (Naarden) to Suriname in the 1800's by joining the Dutch Colonial Army and stayed in Suriname. These ones came on the ship JUNO. The Jessurun family also ended up in Suriname, but I don't know how. I have Jessurun in Suriname and Netherlands, but I can't connect the two lines to each others. Mirijam D'Fonseca was my great-grandmother. Beeldsnijder (from Nickerie, Suriname) and Rooker (from the Netherlands) married two of my great-aunts, and I know they both had children; don't know what happened to them.

Thank you for any and all help.

The first Terschellinger Immigrant Reunion was held in August 2002 in Sioux County, Iowa, USA. More than 80 people associated with Terschelling families that emigrated to Iowa and Illinois between about 1865 and 1885 attended. We were treated to visits by three families from Terschelling.

I am considering organizing a second reunion of these families in 2006 or 2007. I would like to hear from people around the world who might be interested in attending. I am particularly interested in people connected with the Terschelling families listed below.

If you would be interested in attending, or know other people who might be, please send me your email and/or postal address. Tell me whether the summer of 2006 or 2007 is best for you.

Terschelling Families: Bakker, Bloem, Bonne, Bos, Brouwer, Cupido, de Boer, de Graaf, de Vries, Droeviger, Groendyk, Kooijman, Lieuwen, Limburg, Naber, Pals, Roos, Ruijg, Schaap, Smit, Sorgdrager, Swart, Winter, Zorgdrager.

Respond to: Terschellingers@aol.com

Hello everyone,

My website, Yvette's Dutch Genealogy Homepage, has been around for over 10 years but is now completely re-made with a new design and new content. It can be found at: http://www.dutchgenealogy.nl

The website is created for people of Dutch descent that want to research their Dutch ancestors. It includes background information about emigration, research in the Netherlands, history, how Dutch names get changed upon emigration, stories about emigrants, lists of emigrants, etc.

Visitors are welcome to actively participate in the website. Registered users can submit new articles and links or comment on existing articles. Registration is, and always will be, free. Registered users also have access to the photo galleries, including some scans of Dutch emigrant marriage records and graves.

The website is not ever intended to be 'done', I hope it will continue to grow. If you have any suggestions for new content, please let me know.

Yvette Hoitink
Yvette's Dutch Genealogy Homepage
http://www.dutchgenealogy.nl

Hi

I am trying to find out where my G-Grandfather came from. I dont know when he came to England, but in 1872 married an English girl in Westminster, and settled in London.

His name was Johannes Hendricus Jacobs, he was a cabinet maker, he was born in 1840/41. On his marriage certificate, his fathers name was Johannes Frederick Jacobs and he was a butcher. (he must have been born about 1810-1820)

On the 1881 census of London, my G-Grandfather gave his place of birth as The Netherlands, and in the 1891 census he gave it as Rotterdam.

He died in 1924, in The Dutch Homes, Church Lane, Charlton, Greenwich, London.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I need to know when he emigrated to England, and if he was on his own or with his parents. I dont know if he was born in Rotterdam, or just left Holland via Rotterdam.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Sandra

I am looking for the descendants of Philippus de Haan, he was born in Rotterdam 23 Oktober 1907. He was a backer from proffession. Son of Mozes de Haan and Rosetta de Haan. Except for one brother he might be the only surviver of this family so I am searching for descendants for a friend. He leaves Rotterdam probabely working as a cook on a ship. He left 1st July 1929 to America. He came back from New York on 5th of August 1931 and left (for work) again leaving no address. He left on 29 August 1934. Probabely again working on a ship bound for America/New York. I would appreciate every help I can get.

Elizabeth Vant Leven

Looking for info on Elizabeth VANT LEVEN. Name was written in a baby book and maybe slightly misspelled (the ending 2 letters are harder to read)

From Elizabeth's tombstone i know that she was born 7 May 1837 in the Netherlands and died 14 Feb 1903 in Iowa. She was married to Adrian Dek and they probably married in Wisconsin. they had 5 children, 3 of which i know: Peter(b 1862), Mary(b 1864) & Elizabeth(b 1866) all of which were born in Wisconsin.

1870 census - Elizabeth & family were in Waukesha, Wisconsin
1880 census - Elizabeth & family were in O'Brien Co, Iowa
1900 census - Elizabeth was living by herself in Sutherland, O'Brien Co, Iowa. It lists her as having given birth to 5 children but only having 3 living; that she immigrated in 1857 and that she was a landlady.

FYI: DEK is often spelled DECK

I am searching for my relatives who left Utrecht in the late 1800's (around 1898) for Pella, Iowa. My great great grandfather, Reyer van de Kieft married to Mijntje Berkelaar, was a Dutch Reformed minister who was commissioned by the 2nd Christian Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa to take over the Old Scholte Church. If anyone has any information on these families, I would be very grateful!

Thank you.

Aufderhaar Family

Hi Karen;
Thanks for responding to my inquiry. I know little more about the Aufderhaar family other than what I wrote in my inquiry. I know that they came over to the U.S. in 1882. However, I do not know their whereabouts from 1882-1895. According to the record in Swieringa's "Overijssel Emigrants 1881-1908" they came over with three children and their destination was Ohio. One of the children is believed to be Johanna Peters (b. 1875) who married Adam Eisele in Chicago around 1894. I do not know the names or locations of the other two children. Evert Peters and Hermina Aufderhaar had three more children which according to the 1900 Census, were born in Michigan. Hermina Aufderhaar also had two brothers, a Jan Aufderhaar (b.1854) and Gerrit Aufderhaar (b. 1858) both born in Holland. I do not know whether either of them immigrated to the U.S.. Hermina's parents were Heinrich Wilhelm Aufderhaar (b. 1820) and Janna Hakkers (b. 1826).
If any of these names ring a bell, please let me know.
Fred Polkinghorn
