Hello, am not sure if anyone can help me please? My 3rd great grandmother, Isabella Boyd nee Newton, was widowed in 1877 in England. She was a stewardess on the Great Eastern Railway Company travelling on the Richard Young between Harwich and Rotterdam. In 1882 she pleaded guilty to and was fined for smuggling 2.5lbs of tobacco. In London in 1900 she marries a Mr Laxton but her surname is given as Pells. I have searched high and low and cannot find a marriage for her to a chap with this surname. It has been suggested that maybe she married a Mr Pells on ship or indeed in Rotterdam. I even wonder if she was able to just change her surname to marry Mr Laxton so that it was not found out that she had a criminal record. Anyhow, I am eager to go down the other route for now an wonder if anyone can look for a marriage for her please in Rotterdam or how would I go about finding out if she married a Mr Pells on board ship?
Hope this is not too confusing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and if this is not the right board to post on then please let me know where I should post this message.
