Help with Diplomatic Records - W. E. Godman / Guatemala

I have posted this previously, in 2004. The single response I received was rather unhelpful. I am very serious in my request for assistance, but am not looking for a "professional" research service - only good neighborly help from other researchers that believe that the good they do for others will come back to them. I am providing very specific places to look, so there will be no wasted efforts. Here is my inquiry:

I am looking for someone that can access some materials at the Netherlands Nationaal Archief, in The Hague.

I have the following information regarding my subject of research:

My great grandfather, William Elmer Godman (W. E. Godman), was a Netherlands Vice-Consul for Guatemala from the years 1921 to 1934. He was appointed Vice-Consul on 14 September 1921. He was also Consul-Agent for Costa Rica while at this post. The Vice-Consulate was located in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala. The
Consulate was closed after W. E. Godman's death on 6 July 1934.

I am looking for any materials that might have been written by him, or to him during this period of time. All "correspondence" would have been in English (according to the records I already have). However, some records may be in Dutch. These are also welcome. I have already searched the books of Onbezoldigde Consulaire Ambtenaren held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and this is where I obtained the details of the Consulate, including appointment date of service, and the record of my great-grandfather's death.

Materials in the Nationaal Archief that MIGHT have what I am looking for are:

In 1930 the Dutch consulate in Mexico represented Guatemala. The Nationaal Archief holds the archive of the Dutch envoyship in Mexico 1922-1933.(number inventory 2.05.33) In the inventory are a few references to records concerning Guatemala.

There is also a very remote chance that records on Guatemala are to be found in:

*The archive of the Ministry of Foreign affairs B dossiers (number inventory: 2.05.38)
*The archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kabinetsarchief getreffende de politieke rapportage door nederlandse diplomatieke vertegenwoordigers in het buitenland. (1871-1940) (number inventory 2.05.19)

The consulate of Guatemala for the years 1853-1906 (number inventory: 2.05.14.14) But these are NOT the years I am interested in. My great-grandfather was not there during these years.

I would appreciate any help that someone in the Netherlands may be able to offer.

Thank you so very much for your kind assistance.

Jon Fox
Dayton, Nevada
U.S.A.

Isaac Westplaate Cool

I am from Australia. I am seeking further information on Isaac Westplaate Cool. According to Amsterdam archives he and his wife, Johanna Lucia Boom were parents of Jacob born on 10 August 1766. I believe that Isaac Westplaate Cool was the brother of Elisabeth Westplate Cool born about 1738 and married Michael (Michiel) van Millingen in Batavia, Dutch East Indies about 1755. Michael van Millingen (who later lived in London and Paris) was a brother to Samuel van Millingen of London who was my ancestor. I have just noticed online that Thijs Westplate of Capelle aan den IJssel was researching on Isaac Westplaate Cool in 2004. He said Isaac Westplaate Cool was born in Batavia and attended Franeker university in Friesland in 1749 to 1754. I have been unable to contact him as his email address is no longer used. He seemed to say that Isaac's son, Jacob was in Bataafsche Navy and died in Rotterdam on 21 August 1806 under name of Jacob Westplaate. Elisabeth Westplate Cool/van Millingen was said to be an orphan and was raised by her uncle who was Governor General of Batavia and also Admiral. Hope someone will be able to help me on Westplaate Cool. Brian Johnston

However, we can't find out from exactly where in the Netherlands he might have come. Most likely, he went to the Dutch east-Indies at the end of 1800s to Banda Neira. Likely 1880 or so. His name was Hendrik de Bree.
Who knows him?

At this point, if there is anyone who can help with either direct knowledge or can point me to some additional resources that may be able to allow me to go further back in our history it would be appreciated.

Here is the line we are searching for:

Mark van Gelder (born 1920 England)

father: Joseph van Gelder (born 1888 London, England)
mother: Minnia Schnodower

grandfather: Marcus van Gelder (b 1866 Rotterdam)
grandmother: Rebecca Kool (b 1867 England)

greatfather1: Joseph Van Gelder (b 1835 Holland)
greatmother1: Elisabeth Schenk

greatfather2: Marcus Van Gelder (b 1803 Holland)
greatmother2: Maria Samson Cohen

greatfather3: Joseph Abraham Van Gelder (abt 1775? Holland)
greatmother3: Kaatje Marcus

I am currently stuck with Joseph Abraham and cannot seem to locate any additional information in regards to a marriage or birth of either Joseph Abraham or Kaatje Marcus

These are the resources I have been using so far:

http://www.gemeentearchief.rotterdam.nl/
http://genlias.nl/
http://www.familysearch.org

I could use some help if anyone knows of any additional resources. Thanks in advance!!

I have been told that my ancestor emigrated from Rotterdam to the United States sometime about 1860-1870 (by my
estimate). Upon entering the Unites States, his surname was changed to DEECK. He had four children: James, Bartholomew,
William and Emma between 1877 and 1883).

Please let me know if this sounds familiar. Can you provide me with any links to DEECKE family members in the Netherlands?
The Mennonites / Quakers that left Krefeld, Preussen for Germantown, Pennsylvania in 1683 were named: Op den Graeff, Kunders, Tyson, Arets, Lucken, Seimens, Bleikers, Streypers, Keurlis, Lensen, and Tunes. These sound more like Nederland than Deutschland to me. Does anyone know whether these people might have been Dutch immigrants rather than Germans?

NEPBARON

The last name of my great grandmother was VonBremen. Her daughter Katherine married a Fritz or Ids Munniks or Munnick in the Netherlands probably around the 1860's - early 1900. They had a daughter, Esther - she was my mother. My grandparents came to America in the early 1900's. Fritz or Ids had a brother named Yokum. I've heard that their parents were killed in a shipwreck when my grandfather was about 6 years old.
Thank you!

I am looking for information on my 9th gr-grandmother Penelope ? & her first husband, both born about 1622, possibly in Amsterdam & married in Amsterdam in 1642 before coming to America soon after. After landing on shore on Long Island in America, the story is that Penelope & her husband, who was too ill to travel & possibly dying, stayed on the beach while the ship's crew & other passengers left for the safety of town, promising to return for them. Before help could arrive, Penelope & her husband were attacked by Indians, killing him & leaving her for dead. Penelope was later found by Indians who nursed her back to health. She eventually escaped, found her way to town & later married Richard Stout. They later moved to Monmouth County, NJ where she lived to the age of 110. I have seen information saying her first husband was ? VAN PRINCIN, VAN PRINCEN, VAN PRINCES, VAN PRINCESS, Kent VAN PRINCES or John KENT or LENT. I have also seen her maiden name as VAN PRINCIN, VAN PRINCEN, KENT, LENT, THOMSON, & THOMPSON. I would appreciate any help clearing up the mystery of Penelope & her husband's surnames & would be happy to share my information on the many descendants Penelope & Richard left.
Looking for information on Hendrica or Pieter Wesseling. Pieter was born(we think) around 1813 in Friesland, the Netherlands. Hendrica was Pieter's mother but we can not find any records about her. She may have been an un-wed mother and was possibly a teenager when Pieter was born. Pieter married Hiltje Crap in St. Annaparochie around 1850. Pieter Wesseling is my great-great grandfather.

Looking for information on the family of Leendart Kloosterman (b. Sept. 12, 1816)(d.May 21, 1909) who came to America in 1854 on board the "Masonic" with his wife, Neetje Sandifort, and their children. They were natives of Holland. They settled in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I believe that a John Klosterman and wife, Wilhelmina Pelzinger, was Leendart's brother and am trying to connect the two. They came on the same ship from the Holland. They are both buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Kalamazoo. My line is through Cornelius Closterman, son of Leendart. I believe that they are the sons of Pieter Kloosterman and Maartje Nuij. I am willing to share information.

I know they came to Michigan in 1921 on a Detroit border crossing with 3 children who were born in "English Canada". The children were twins Joseph and Clarence born in 1918 and Margaret born about 1816. I am trying to follow Bertha back to Holland. On the marriage certificate her father is listed as Catreinus Jagtenberg and her mother as Johanna Van Ballagosien. (Spelling may be inaccurate)

Does anyone have any information on the family of Jan Dam (John Daam) of the Netherlands? I believe he was born in 1896 and immigrated to the US in the early 1900's. Jan was my grandfather and as a boy he was adopted by the Ruimveld family.

He may be related to the following:
Elizabeth Ariaantje & Florus de Zeeuw
Janna Elizabeth & Jan Leenheer
Krijna & Pleun Dekker
Rijka Elizabeth & Hermanus van den Berg
Rochus Catharinus & Anna Cornelia Mast
Jacoba Maria & Pieter Stehouwer
Willem & Helena Klara Lenie Stehouwer
Gerda Stehouwer
Jeanette Stehower

I am not certain about the family ties, but in their family tree they list a Jan Dam with no other information in regards to Jan.

Jan/John (Dam/Daam) Ruimveld married Antje/Anna Hut.
Any help woudl be greatly appreciated.
Martin and Cornelus Tromp were famous dutch "admirals" circa 1579-1640's. Having served in alliance with the English and received honors, one of them took refuge in England when under political threat.
He apparently produced daughters as well as sons and most eventually returned to the Netherlands. One daughter however is recorded to have married "Ussher Tyrrell" son of Sir Richard Tyrrell in Jamaica West Indies. Does anyone know of the Tromps, or a book which may shed light on their movements?
Seeking info about Protestants who fled to Sweden from FLANDERS

I am completely at a loss as to where to begin. I know that my ancestor's name was Olaus Laurentius (Olof Larsson), born in 1543 in Borlange, Sweden to a man named LARS (Laurence, Lawrence, Laurents, Laurentz??) who is said to have fled from Flanders seeking religious freedom in Sweden. The original source for this information said Olaus' parents were Huguenots (I presume originally from France.) "Lars" and his wife probably sailed to either Stockholm or Gavle, and then settled in the Dalarna region, in the town/village of Borlange (near what is now Gagnef commune.) We are guessing Lars and his wife (and possible other family members) would have left Flanders sometime in the previous 0-30 years (1542-1510) since they were still of childbearing age by 1543. Lars may have been ordained previously, but this is unknown. His son Olof Larsson's name was "latinized" to Olaus Laurentius when he became a member of the clergy in Sweden in the 1560-70's at Uppsala or Vasternas. ANY ADVICE on how and where to begin searching would be greatly appreciated. Would transport records from Flemish ports exist from this time frame? Were there lists kept in Flanders of religious refugees who fled France.

They immigrated to Australia in April 1956 with 8 of their 9 children. My father Matheus Reabel married Petronella van Amelsfort on January 4, 1956 and immigrated to Canada with 3 children and two on the way in April of 1960. I am looking for any info on my great grandfather who may have lived in Tilburg, NB, Netherlands or possibly Tournhout, Belgium. Please email any info to me. Thank you, Maria.

Is Wildfield a variation of a Dutch surname?

My great-grandmother came to the US from Holland around 1890. Their last name was Wildfield. I have found this on US census information, but nothing before they came here. I'm not finding this name anywhere in my Dutch research. Is this a Dutch surname, or could it have been derived from another Dutch name? Thanks for you help.
