I am looking for the family of Maria Ottelina Christina (Ietje) WILLEMSEN-PLANTE FEBURE de VILLENEUVE (born 14/05/1930 - died 08/03/2005) from Groningen. Ietje is my half-sister, we had the same father, Remy Marie Frederick PLANTE FEBURE de VILLENEUVE (born in Den Hague 22/05/1904 - died 06/03/1979 in Sydney, Australia). I would also like to contact my half-brother and his family, Ietje's brother, Marten PLANTE FEBURE de VILLENEUVE. My name is Amy Mariette BLACKMORE (nee PLANTE FEBURE de VILLENEUVE) and I came to Australia, from Indonesia, in 1954 with my parents and brother. I now live in Sydney, NSW, Australia. If anyone could put me in contact with these long lost family members I would much appreciate it. Thank you.

My family originated in the Netherlands. My Great-great- grandfather was Jacob Borgman Born 1 Feb. 1855, Netherlands Died 18 Apr.1919, Netherlands. My Great-great-grandmother was Janna Zuidema Born 18 May, 1861, Netherlands Died 30 Jan, 1952 in Fulton, IL, USA. They had 8 children all who came to the USA. - names: Jacob, Dieteriekus(Dick), Rikkert, Geertje, Reinder, Katerina, Pieter and John. Jacob came to Chicago, IL and the rest went to Fulton, IL.
My Great-grandmother Elizabeth Van Dyke was born 29 Aug. 1887 in Gronigen. She was the daughter of Henry Jacob Van Dyke and Yemkjen Jans Hoff. Henry was born 4 Sept. 1835 in Bafloo, Yemkjen was born 2 June 1852 in Oosterwolde Friesland.
Somehow there's a Jacob Van Dyke -born in 1683 who is related. Then there's Thomas Jacob Van Dyke Born in 1710 and married at Eenrum. There's also a John Thomas Van Dyke born in 1753 at Eenrum, married 30 October 1772, died 7 Jan, 1808. He married Elizabeth Pieters born 21 July, 1748 at Peterburn and died 21 March 1789 at Eenrum. She was the daughter of Pieter's & Lysbeth Jan's. I hope someone can help me fill in the missing pieces and share some of the family history with me.

I have been trying to locate additional information on the ancestors of Wibbe Pot (born about 1822) in Huizen, Groningen, who married Martje Bonnema. The family migrated to the United States between 1867 and 1872. Their oldest son Jan (John) may have left separately at an earlier date. Any information you can provide would be much appreciated!!

If your relatives of Pot, Pott, Pott's came from Holland/Netherland and were in Chicago,or Michigan,or South Dakota. Lets talk. My Grandparents were from Groningan, Holland. They came to Chicago in 1892. Fred and Clara Pott m. 1880 in Grogingan Netherland, came with their children Carson (My Grandfather) b. Nov.15,1886, John, and Mattie. Sometime before 1908 they,(except John, he stayed in Chicago) moved to MI. In 1908 thats when they settled in SD. I wish I could find a cencus record of them either in Chicago or in Michagan ( Perhaps local people there could search for me). I have hit a brick wall yet, I've been able to connect others. So let's make a connection. By the way, if your Pot(t)(s) ancestors were in the shipping or pirateering business, contact me. If you have any ?, ask. There is a reason why they went to Chicago and not NY from Holland, there is a reason why they went to Michigan, and there is a reason why they decided to settle in South Dakota. Perhaps it was family. I just dont have the answers. Do you? Thank you. Janet

In researching early ancestors, I discovered that our earliest came from the Groningen area, but I am stuck now, because I do not speak Dutch and am not familiar with the area. I am in Texas, US. Perhaps someone would be so kind to help with this? THANK YOU in advance!
The immigrant who first came to America from the Netherlands in 1600's was listed on ship records as EGBERTSZE.......His descendants were EGBERTSON and then finally EGBERT. would "Egbertsze" be a Dutch form of "Egbertson" ??? "Wessel Egbertson" was given as his name by his son somewhere, but I have searched the SHIP PASSENGERS for ALL the ships the Dutch West India Co. BROUGHT to Amercian in the 1600's and the ONLY name i find that is close is "EGBERTZSE" so i am HOPING that is him......
HOW would I find out if someone from Netherlands came to American in the 1600's, married, had children? He has a LOT of relative here now!! and none of their genealogies seem to go back past him, so i am realllly hoping this is the guy.
ALSO, one name given was WESSEL......is that a common first name in the area in 1600's??? Online I found a VILLAGE by that name referred to. DId they sometimes give thier towns as their names or vice versa?
2 words appear i a couple places, and i have NO idea what they mean:
"NUERDER BOUWKENS"
this might be in association with his wife he married in America after arrival.

Any tips???

thanks!
Kathy Egbert

Searching for relatives in Uithuizen, Groningen. My GGrandfather (son of Derk Berend Visser and Pieterke Werkman Visser) immigrated to Muskegon, MI, in 1881. His name was Berend Derk Visser - his wife, Trientje Hoveling Visser died aboard the ship giving birth (son died also). Berend (Barney) then took his less-than-2-yr-old son, Derk to Michigan and lived with relatives (Barney's brothers, Klaas (Nicholas) and Jan (John) had also immigrated, along with mother, Pieterke, whose husband, Derk, had died in Uithuizen). Pieterke also had 3 daughters who were married and stayed in Uithuizen (Aafke, who married Jan Ettema in 1878, Martje, who married Klaas Zwart in 1875, and Grietje, who married Luitje Bonnema in 1879). Is there anyone out there who knows anything about these families? We would so appreciate any information. Thank you.

In 1872 a few members of the Schanssema family emigrated from a small town in the northern part of the Netherlands, to the States.
These people were:
*Pieter Schanssema (born in 1813, widower) and his children:
*Pieterke Schanssema (born in 1842, widow of Harm Laning, their daughter Anna emigrated with her mother and other relatives)
*Klaas Schansema (Nicholas, born in 1844,probably married in 1878 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Ida Sandman)
*Willem Schansema (William, born in 1847, died in 1927 Kent, married in the States to Engeliena ..... (Lena, born in 1851, died in 1925) William and Lena had at least three children: Greetje (born in 1876), Anna (1878) and Peter (1882-1911).
*Berendje Schansema (Budje, born in 1856).
Maybe the eldest married daughter of Pieter Schanssema emigrated also with her father and brothers/sisters;
*Hemmechien Schanssema (born in 1840, married in the Netherlands to Hinderk Groenewold)

Does anyone have more information about these people ?

Searching on the internet I found more Schans(s)ema's in the surroundings of Kent: Jay, Jane, Withers, William N., Frances and Angelyn. But (how) are these people related to the emigrated Dutch Schans(s)ema's ?

Thanks,

Harm
Geneology

My father, Lammert Bussema was born in Sauert in Gronigan province in 1912. His mother was Kunje Huizinga and father Peter Bussema. Peter's father was Johannes Bussema, and mother Jaapje Vander Kooi. Kunje's parents were Jakob Huizinga and Gepke Nichoff. Peter was born is Sauert in 1878 and Kunje was born in Adorp in 1881. Kunje died in 1913 at age 33. I would assume she is buried in Sauert. My Dad came to the USA in 1920 along with his father and 5 siblings. His family was the last of the Bussema's to come here. All of my grandfather's siblings had come earlier. Jaapje VanderKooi Bussema died at approximate age 83 in either Adorp or Sauert, but I have no idea of when that would have been. If anyone knows of any of these people or would be interested in looking up records for me, the several hundred Bussema decendents in the USA would greatly appreciate it. I have found all these names from my father's passport papers. We would really like to add to our knowledge of our family tree.

Looking for Records from Oldambt/Dollard villages

Hello,

I am looking for resources for a village in Oldambt that was destroyed by the flooding of the Dollard. The village I am specifically looking for was named Zwaag (aka Swage, Swaech, Swaegh, Swaghe depending on the timeframe according to a website on found on the Dollard).

Can anyone suggest sources for records from this town? Church records? Would the records have been relocated to a nearby, still-existing town? Map of the specific location? I have several maps which show the locations of other towns lost to the Dollard.

At this point even general info on this area would be helpful. For instance, if I cannot locate Zwaag, could I find out which parish it belonged to? Did Zwaag itself have a church?

The families I am looking for from Zwaag (Junker/Jonker, Behrens, Jurgens) migrated to Ostfriesland (mostly Ihrhove) in the 1790s. I've exhausted all I can think of in Ostfriesland for these families.

All three of these families would have attended (a very educated guess) a Dutch Reformed chuch in or near Zwaag.

Thanks for any and all input.

Randall
