Nellie Smith - Limburg, Netherlands

Hi All,

This is my first post, and I have no idea if I am posting in the right area!

I am trying to trace my Great grandmother. Nellie Smith (1886 - 2 Aug 1946, Paddington)

I have her death certificate, but no birth date and there are no living relatives to ask.

I had come to a brickwall and decided to leave it at that, however I found a family tree on here with my grandmother on it and her mother as Nellie Smith, Limburg, Netherlands.

I have tried contacting the person that the tree belongs to months ago, but there has been no activity on their account for ages.

Can anyone advise me on how to contact this person, or how I can research my Nellie Smith in Limburg, Netherlands

Thanks in advance.

MoonfishRuth x

My Mother is Jacqueline Marie-Jose Vaessen who's father was Mattius Vaessen from Venlo. He once had a business in Limburg before the second world war and married into the Fliecher family from Maastricht. Her brothers included Leon and Jacque who all moved to England when the German occupation of the Netherlands began. Leon had some involvement in work for the Dutch Royal family, but he has passed away and nothing of his colourful past is recorded.

Hello again.
I have just found the following record online in the Wolder Dutch Reformed Church marriage records. The date is 1 year later than the one I had but the same day.

m. 30-07-1662
Elizabeth de Lidels (uit Leeuwarden)
Jean Caoit (geboortig van Ferte tous ioire in Frankrijk)

Do you have access to the hand written church record? The record I found was typed so I am assuming that it is a transcription. If possible I would like to see the original to make my own guess as to what the names were.

If and when you have time - thank you - Wilma

I'm sorry but I must have missed your reply. I do not have earlier info on the de la Ferte family.
I have just found on the Limburg marriage records for the Dutch Reformed Church of Wolder the following record.

m. 30-07-1662
Elizabeth de Lidels (uit Leeuwarden)
Jean Caoit (geboortig van Ferte tous ioire in Frankrijk)

This is a typed record on the internet and my guess is that it is a transcription of the original which I am assuming would have been hand written in 1662. My record had the marriage date as 30-07-1661. My guess is that this is the couple I was looking for but would have to confirm it with the original.

What is your de la Ferte line from Joan. You can email me at klyne(at)shaw.ca
I am hoping someone more knowledgeable than myself will be able to help me in a search. My partner's father was killed in Dec 1944 and is buried in Mook Cemetery. Following his death my partner's mother received some letters from a young Dutch girl named Enny Keulen from Limburg who took it upon herself to tend his grave before his body was re-located to Mook. My partner is now anxious to trace Enny and, indeed, to find if she is still alive. All I currently know is that Enny Keulen was 17 years old in 1946 and lived at that time at Kampstraat 5, Nuth, Z.Limburg.
Can anyone tell me how to proceed with tracing this person?

Many thanks in advance.
Rick Burrows

The surname Claessens (Classen) (Klassen) has been intwined with my ancestors in the Netherlands. A sizeable listing of catholic baptisms for Ottersum can be located at:
http://www.krebber.org/OTTERS_T.TXT
Example: Pg 2 of 38, shows a Johannes Krebbers born 1801, and a Johannes & Christina Classsen as possible god-parents. Another entry: Gertruidis b: 1802 with a Jois & Christina Claassen as possible god-parents. (Headlines for the report is listed as: Ottersum, Taufen, ka., Years 1800-1849. Just scanning the full pages 1-9, I find at least ten entries of the varied spelling of CLAASSEN. My Dutch ancestors surnames: Van Eyck, Van Den Berg, Jasper, Rutten, Stoffelen(Stoffels), Jansen/Janssen, Peters, Melzen, Reintjes, Wolters, Coenen, Holtermans, Hoenselaers, Tonnissen, Maes to name a few.
The Stoffelen/Stoffels came from Hommersum, W. Prussia to USA in 1858 and settled in Wisconsin. My gr,gr grandfa was Johann Heinrich Stoffelen b: Mar 9, 1803 , married Henrianna Van Eyck about 1829 in Appledorn W. Prussia and died July 21, 1864 in Barton, WI. My records were researched by a German genealogist and provided to a descendant of Theodora Stoffelen Peters, a sister to my Johann H. Stoffelen. She is also buried in the catholic cemetery in Barton, WI.

I hope this will be of some help to your searches. M. Kuhl

My husband is Bob Horick. The family story is that the immigrant Horick--John--came from The Netherlands (at an unknown time) and was in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, in 1799. We know that there is a tiny village of Horick in Limburg. Perhaps John Horick came from that village. We would be very pleased to hear from anyone who knows anything about any Dutch Horick. We'd also like to know something of the history of the village of Horick and/or that general area. Was there a lot of emigration in the 18th Century? If so, why?

I am told he was born in Rotterdam and married in St. Odillinberg.
I am searching for any info on Francois(Franchois) Robert(Robaer) born about 1600-1610, and his wife Lijsbeth or Elisabeth du Sar(du Sart,du Saer). They may have come from Belgium or France, but could have married in Stevenswaert. They later mpoved to Leiden and had a son Istrael born in 1640. Lijsbeth was the widow of a du Pon or du Pont.
I have nothing on Francois or any other Robert family.
Replies in Dutch are ok, I can read and understand it.
Thankyou,
Jackie Dickinson(Robert)

SCHELLEN Families living in Horst, Limburg prior to c1910

My husband's grandfather - Jan SCHELLEN and his family - lived in Rotterdam sometime around 1910, and he was a 'kleermaker' (tailor), who had a shop in Horst, which closed down sometime around then. His wife was a VAN RENS from nearby Venlo. When he shifted to Rotterdam, some of his family relatives moved at that time to other places, such as Eindhoven, Nijmijgen, Oss, s'Hertogenbosch, Tilburg, etc. We are looking for information about any SCHELLEN descendants from any one of these other localities. Earlier on, some of Jan's ancestors included a Balthazar SCHELLEN, born in Eindhoven in 1776, but died in Horst in 1851. He lived with his son Willem, who lived at 193 Heerstraat, Horst - at that time. Willem's 2 sons Pieter Jan and Pieter Antoon both had shops in Horst in the late 1800's, but by 1904 had sold these and moved away. Pieter Antoon was the father of Jan (mentioned above).

I am sorry that I cannot understand Dutch, but my husband can translate a bit. I would like to communicate in English, if possible. Thank you.

Thank You for answering my query. The full name is Robbie Rae Barthicram. She was born in 1903 and died around 1972.
The german data I found was under directories and members list. I think its an address book from 1926. I went to the German map and clicked on it then typed in her name and hit search and down threw there is a Robbie Barthicram. I really appreciate your help.

Thanks Again
Angie

This is a genealogy board, so not directly for the search of living persons. You can try the phonebook in english on http://en.detelefoongids.nl/ In the who field enter Schellen In the where field enter Nederland. You get 146 hits. You can narrow the search bij entering tne town in stead of Nederland. Eindhoven has 14 hits, Nijmegen (watch your spelling) 1, Oss 3, "s-Hertogenbosch 1, Tilburg 4.
As full adresses are shown you can try to send letters or try phoning. You need to replace the starting 0 by the international entry code followed by 31
The only place with this familyname seems to be your entries. Yhe name is not in the dutch or german phonebook. The only name I can come up with that has a similar sound is Brautigam. Do you have first name(s) for this person? Where is the information in German? I can read and understand german.
