I am trying to piece together an ancestry for Joseph Weeman. Joseph was married to Mary Richards April 10, 1774 in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.
It is reported in History of Durham, Maine that Joseph's father's name was Valentine Weeman, and he was from Holland.
I found a small reference to Valentine Weeman as being from Dirkslans, Zuid-Holland, and he had a daughter Christina born there in 1758. This same reference says Joseph was born in 1751, leading me to believe that he was also born there.
I would assume Valentine could be spelled Valentijn.
Does anybody have access to indexes where I can investigate this branch of my ancestry? Thanks.
