I've found my GGrandfather and GGrandmother in the 1910 census living with a family Cravalho. I believe this is my GGrandmother's aunt. Living with them is the mother to Cravalho who has the last name Enoes. I suspect neither of these names are spelled correctly. Can someone give me the correct spelling?

I'm new to Portugese genealogy but not genealogy.

I'm looking for my GGrandfather or his family. He was Manuel Felipe de Gouveia, born sometime between 1885-1995 on Maderia Island, Azores. His mother was Bernarda L de Jesus and his father was Joao Felipe de Gouveia. My GGrandfather emmigrated in 1905, resided for a time in Lowell, MA and then moved to CA sometime just after 1920.

Would love to have contact with anyone that might recognize these names. Or is there some place on the web that describes the naming conventions in Azores?

I would like to find out any information of my family name 'dos santos'. The information I have is that my grandmother was called Maria Nunes of the Jarimba family and she married my grandfather Manuel Rodrigues dos Santos, who together with 12 other crew members disappeared whilst fishing I think in the year 1949 or 1950 not sure. They were from the island of Madeira, of the village Machico. I would like to trace my families history to as far back as it can go. My father was their son Joao Rodrigues dos Santos. They were four children. Any information from the archives in Portugal or Madeira would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for information on my gggrandfather (Joseph Silvey), aka Joseph Silvia-Simmons or Portugese Joe#1. He came to Victoria and worked for the Hudson Bay Co., then moved to BC, Canada where he lived in Gastown (presently part of the city of Vancouver) and also at Brockton Point in Stanley Park. This would have been around 1870-72. He married a native indian woman and had two children with her. His oldest daughter, Elizabeth was the first child to be born in Vancouver with European heritage.

He was I believe, born on Pico Island in the Azores, Portugal. His father's name was John Silvia-Simmons and his mother's name was Francesca Hyacintha (don't believe that Hyacintha was her surname). Apparently Joseph (my gggrandfather) came from Portugal with his father John and also a brother named John. Their father apparently died of a heart attack on the ship enroute to Canada. I have no idea what happened to the brother John, or even if there was a brother John.

I would really like to find out more about my gggrandfather hand his family back in Portugal.

I would greatly appreciate any information that may help me in my search.

I have no idea of Portugese city, only that he was from Portugal and migrated to Virginia. An 1850 census from Va. lists him as 39 years old and married to Sarah Wilmouth - they had 7 or 8 children: Mary, John, Emanuel, Anthony, James, Sally M., Missouri A., & Allen Wilmoth.

Robert “Bob” Lee Bryson, 71, of Sedalia,NISSOURI died Friday, January 25, 2008, at Rest Haven Convalescent Home.

He was born July 26, 1936, in Sedalia,MISSOURI a son of Roy L. and Mary E. Glazebrook Bryson. He married Elda Eckhoff in June 1958.
Mr. Bryson was a member of Christ and Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a graduate of Cole Camp High School in 1955. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1961 through 1963 and was stationed in Germany.. He worked as a lineman and forman for Missouri Public Service and Central Missouri Electric Coop retiring in 1994. He was also a member of Moose Lodge #1494, Elks Lodge BPOE 125, and American Legion 642. He enjoyed fishing, yard work, gardening, travel with his family, visiting with family and friends, having coffee with his buddies and driving his red truck. He had live all of his life in Sedalia MO.

Survivors include three daughters, Robin Tennant and her husband Dan, of Peachtree, GA, Rhonda Bryson, of Independence, and Rita Lawson and her husband Chris, of Kansas City; four grandsons, Shelby Barker, Chris Bryson, Mel Lawson and Owen Lawson; two great granddaughters; a sister, Mary Jo Bryson, of St. Joseph and two brothers, Roy W. Bryson and his wife Elaine, of Sedalia and John Dee Bryson, of Sedalia.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2008 at Heckart Funeral Home with Pastor Yvonne Marshall officiating.

Pallbearers will be Bob Hesse, Ronnie Page, Rick Dickenson, Charles Hopkins, Jake Hartung and Merlyn Shephard.

Honorary bearers will be Charlie Curry, Jim Treece, Jim Hankins, Mark Gray, Sonny Broyles, Terry Sheere and Marvin Ehlers.

Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2591 will
conduct full military honors at the graveside.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Moose Lodge BPOE 125 will conduct services at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home

I know for a fact that a lot of portuguese from Carviçais (Moncorvo) imigrated to America but also to Brazil. While I was looking for some relatives in the passengers lists from Portugal, I have noticed that a considerable amount of persons were coming from Moncorvo (mispelled Moncerve, Mencerve,... ). Quite often they were from Carviçais but they only wrote down Moncorvo.
I am myself a daughter of immigrants from this area. A few months ago I started doing my family tree and I found some relatives in Plymouth, Mass. I am particularly interested in finding old photos of Carviçais ou Moncorvo ou people coming from there. I already found a few on www . forumcarvicais . com

So I was wondering if there was out there anybody looking for their portuguese roots that had any pictures from Carviçais/Moncorvo to share.

I am going to Portugal on the 23rd of May and my sister and I are going to make this a genealogy research trip. We are going to check the cemeteries and are also going to visit the Archives. Looking for ancestors of Joao Francisco Nunes born in Pico,
Piedade Azores in April 1893 to Manuel Francisco nunes (Oct. 15,1849b)
and Maria Piedade (1865b), they were married Oct. 17,1889. They had 3
children, my grandfather Joao, Mariana (died1904) and Maria (b 1895).
There was a son that my grandfather had that remained in Pico when he
came to the states in Oct. 1915 (not sure of his name or his mother's
name). When he came to the states he went to an uncles house Vincent

i hope not to waste anyone time, but because the information i cand find in the web about this is none, i hope that someone in here can help me. a teacher at my university spoke about a community of people from algarve (south portugal, and where i live) that went to united states in the colonial era, and when reaching the new world were considered (because of the mourish heritage) to have skin not enough white to be considered europeans and were made slaves. he tolds us that they still speak a form of portuguese now a days.
again i'm sorry if i´m wasting anyone time and for posting a question not relatively linked to the maters on the forum.

My father's name was Orbelino Ferreira and he was born in Figueiro da Serra in Portugal. His father's name was Daniel Pires Ferreira and his mother's name was Maria dos Anjos dos Prazeres.

I've been doing some research to see if i could find any information on his father's family and instead i've found out that his mother's parents moved seperately from Gouveia to New Bedford MA in 1914, got married there, and then moved back to Portugal. Their names were Maria dos Prazeres and Antonio Martins Lavado.

I know all the names of my Lavado cousins in MA but i thought i'd check here to see if anyone knows anything about the Ferreira or Lavado families from Figueiro da Serra or Gouveia.

My brother, John, is my half brother but to he and I, halves don't matter. He is very much older than I. We share a father but not a mother.
I am trying to help him to find the burial place and date of death of his biological mother.
This is all he and I know.
Her name was Clara Fernandes (possibly Fernandez) was of Portuguese descent. Lived in Mt. Vernon, NY. Born approximately 1915.
Was married to Edward Gardella approximately 1932. Had a child originally named Emmanuel (my brother John) born in Mt. Vernon NY 1933.
Divorced in Mt. Vernon approx 1939.
Remarried but to whom we do not know.
Died circa 1972- 1976 most likely in Mt. Vernon.
Any info anyone could share would be very much appreciated. Please help me to help my brother.

I have looked at the messages on this board and still seek a few answers.

I decided to do my family tree too late in life and many people have passed on so finding answers is difficult.

My great grandmother was born in Bandeiras, Madalena, Pico, Azores. Her husband, Frank T. Silva, sent for her when he reached California. I have been told that her real birth date was not known because her birth certificate was lost and a priest in her home town made up a birth date for her so she could be able to come to the U.S. Also, I have been told that she also went by the name Maria do Ceo which ment Mary of Heaven before she got married.

I believe that her parents were Manual J. Dias and her mothers last name was Brown, but I'm not sure.

If anyone could help me fill in the blanks it would me most appreciated.

i am trying to research the family of my mother in law who was cora gloria oliveira. born may 9 1902 in angustias, emigrated to rhode island in july 1916 as a domestic, met by a luiz costa. she married john faria in 1923 and had 3 children, ernest, born 1924, john [my late husband] born 1928 and rosemarie, born 1935. the ship manifest lists her nearest relative in the azores as her father, jose oliveira but does not list her mother.she lived her whole married life in cranston rhode island until her death in 1968. after she died, her younger sister, aurora became john farias second wife and they lived in new bedford til he died in 1977. can anyone help me to find any more information on her?

I'm trying to find the nationality origin for this family name--KINSOLVING. It has had many forms over the years. Some say it is Spanish, some say Portuguese. Here is the story I have:

"The name is possibly of Spanish origin, derived from Gonsalvo of Castile Spain, 900 A.D. and has appeared on the VA records since 1670. It is one of the oldest names in VA. A descendant of Count Gonsolvo, of Castile, Count Ferdinand Gonsalvo of Cordoba, was Grand Captain in 1500 when Ferdinand and Isabella ruled Spain. In 1492, when Columbus sailed--Count Ferdinand Gonsalvo was in his prime. In 1585, the Viscount Gonzales came to the Florida coast, and in 1609, 1 or 2 of them went to VA. I am conducting some research on a Portuguese explorer named Francisco Serrao. He was the first European to ever successfully reach the Spice islands in modern day eastern Indonesia. He fought side by side with Magellan from 1505 to 1511 while the two were in India and Malacca, Malaysia. I am trying to find out more about Serrao. I think he was born about 1475, but do not know the region in Portugal. Any help would be appreciated!

Rafael Ferrer Mialheiro was born about 1720 in Lisbon, son of Antonio Ferrer Mialheiro and Teodora de la Cruz de Mendoza. He was married in Mexico in 1742.

Some descendants of this family used the surnames Mialheiro, Milheiros and Milleros.

Germano de Abreu from Machico migrated to Hawaii on the S.S. Hankow on July 1883. Came with wife Maria de Jesus. Took 66 days to arrive in Hawaii.

Manuel Mendes from Sao Pedro migrated to Hawaii on the S.S. Amana on September 23, 1886. Came with wife Maria do Espiritu Santo. Took 147 days to arrive in Hawaii.

Joao Filippe Gomes from Boaventura migrated to Hawaii on March 4, 1886 on the S.S. Stirlingshire. Came with wife Augusta Maria Jose. Took 112 days to arrive in Hawaii.

I am doing research on the Persip family. John Persip was born in Portugal around 1764. He ended up in America by 1790 I think. All Persips in America are descendant from this one man. However, I cannot find any information as to where in Portugal he was from. A death record for a daughter indicated that he was in fact born in Portugal. They married in 2nd October 1950 in Funchal.

They both are now deceased Noberto died in 09/02/1965 and Maria 29/11/1965 and they both are burried at Santa Antonio Cemetery.
