Luginbuehl of Krattigen, Bern

I'm looking for any information I can find on the ancestors and/or descendents of:

Lucas-Oloffson Luginbuehl
AND
Elisabeth Luginbuehl

Of Switzerland - most likely somewhere around Krattigen as this is where their children were born.

Their children were:

Anna Luginbuehl
b. 23 Dec 1858 Krattigen, Bern, Switzerland
(married Christian Zurschmiede on 28 July 1890 in Aeschi, Switzerland)
d. 20 Jun 1943 in Unterseen, Bern, Switzerland

Jakob Luginbuehl
b. 02 Aug 1855 Krattigen, Bern, Switzerland

Karolina Luginbuehl
b. 07 May 1862 Krattigen, Bern, Switzerland
d. 06 May 1863 Krattigen, Bern, Switzerland

Maria Luginbuehl
b. 12 Jun 1864

(I'm a descendent of Anna Luginbuehl).

The ONLY information I've been able to find is what I've listed above. I found this on the Mormon database. But I cannot find anything further such as the parents of either Lucas-Oloffson Luginbuehl or his wife Elisabeth (last name is listed as Luginbuehl so I'm not sure if that's her maiden name or her married name).

I've tried variations of Luginbuehl but haven't had any hits. So other variations to try would be welcome.

Also - does anyone know of a Swiss census database such as the UK, Canada, and the U.S. has?

Thanks.

Eberhart

My great-great grandmother was Kristina Eberhart. She came to the United States around 1851. My grandmother's Hauspostille has her name spelled that way, but it is by no means a sure thing. It states that she came from Kanton Bern and was born June 18, 1826. She married Georg Gutoehrlein sometime between 1851 and 1855 when her first child was born in Missouri. After that the family moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin where my great grandmother was born. I am seeking her origins, and, of course, her ancestors. Since she came to the United States and married between censuses, I am having a hard time finding much about her. Any help is more than welcome.

Nicolas Messer married to Elisabeth Catherine Leuenberger

I am researching the Messer family. My GGGrandfather Nicolas Messer married Elisabeth Catherine Leuenberger, daughetr of Johannes Leuenberger and Anna Rothanbhler of Durrenroth, Bern Canton, Switzerland 17 Oct 1837. I have been unable to locate any information on him prior to his marriage in Durrenroth.

I know that he and his family, consisting of Elisabeth, son Bennett and infant daughter sailed out of Havre, France on 18 Mar 1851 landing in New Orleans, Lousianna on 31 Mar 1851.

On the records of Max Leuenberger it shows that he came from Etzelkofen, Bern Canton. But haven't been able to make any contact at all from this information. I have been searching for Nicolas since 1993 with no progress at all.

I was told by a cousin of my mother's that Nicolas had been exiled from Germany for fighting for the wrong side, but ?? I would appreciate help from any kind to assist me in my search. Thank you in advance. Alicemae HANNEGAN Abbott

Imboden sisters

I have found a letter written in January 14th, 1958 to my great-grandmother, Hattie Amacher, from her cousin in Thun Canton Bern, Switzerland. The letter states that there were 5 sisters but only names 3 of them, Alice (Imboden) Steinegger, Martha (Imboden) Pachond, and the author Frieda (Imboden) Wirrzenried. I am not totally sure of the spellings of the last names as it is hand written and very neat, but they are very close. The signature in the end is spelled Fridy. I would appreciate any information about this family anyone could give me. Debbie rickersons@peoplepc.com Thank you.

Winkelman(n), Catharina - Siselen, Canton Bern

I am related to a Catharina Winkelmann from Siselen who immigrated to St.Louis in 1860 or perhaps the year before. I was wondering if there are other Winkelmann's who emmigrated from Siselen to St.Louis?

She married Heinrich Menz from Bielefeld in 1860 in St.Louis. He is Henry Mentz on the 1860 directory and there after.

Background Info:
Kirchgemeinde Siselen KB 4:266. Catharina Winkelmann, b. 6 Jan 1832, bp. 15 Jan 1832; daughter of Hans Winkelmann the son of Friedrich, and of [his wife] Elsbeth Prolin (sic, not too clear), who were married 2 July 1817

Another passage says:
KB 8:33 where he is called Johannes Winkelmann and she is called Elsbeth Probst and it was recorded with the date June 6, 1817

Catharina(Catherine) has her mother listed as E. Eisle on her death record for St. Louis. Peharps this was her second mother or it is wrong on one of the documents. I do believe that the mother listed on the church record is wrong because she is down again giving birth in April of the same year as the husband of another Johannes Winkelmann. Obviously men's second names are not listed and this is probably were the confusion lies.
The iseli.org website lists Johannes Winkelmann marring Elsbeth Iseli from Täuffelen in 1817.

If any distant relatives could shed light on the matter it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Daniel

RELATIVES OF ANDREAS DAVID HOFER

My g,great grandfather URS HOFER(born 1809, Wangen, Bern) had 3 daughters and 1 son. I have been able to trace two of his daughters but have no knowledge of AMELIE ANNE born 29 December 1852 in Geneva or his son. His son (born 21 July 1844 in Geneva, was baptised ANDRE FRANCOIS but later changed his name to ANDREAS FRANZ. On 28 August 1868 he married Anna Maria Marti in Grafenried, Bern. On 13 September 1869, they had a son ANDREAS DAVID, born Rapperswil, Bern. He was cousin to my grandmother.
I wonder, were there any other children, and did Andreas David grow up and have a family?
I should be very pleased to hear of anything relating to the HOFER family. Very many thanks in advance. Marie

My Great Great Grandfather David Teuscher came to the USA from Switzerland and landed in New York. He left with a brother but they were separated somehow along the way and never seen each other again. David then moved to Iowa where he was a casket maker. He married Anna Catharine Schrader in 1874. They moved to Oklahoma and that is where they are buried.
David didn't leave any information about himself in Switzerland. I am looking for the brother and any other relatives such as parents or even a town from which he departed.
If anything sounds famaliar please contact me.
Thank you,
Mendy Trejo Martinez

Johann von Allmen/von Allman

My 2nd-great grandfather John Von Allman was born in Switzerland circa 1821. I'm told that the surname von Allmen originates from Canton Bern.

I don't know when he immigrated to the USA, but it was sometime prior to 1869. As of 1869 he was living in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania where he remained until his death in 1889.

I cannot locate him on any earlier census in Beaver county, Pennsylvania, and I don't know how he ended up there. The few von Almen's that I've found in immigration sources seem to have taken the Le Havre, France to New Orleans, Louisiana route to America. I did see a Johann von Almen who immigrated in May 1851 along with a Conrad, Anna, and Magdalena von Almen via this route, but I haven't seen the film yet to know if more data matches.

I would welcome any ideas as to how I might locate him earlier in the USA, and eventually back in Switzerland.

He is not the same John Von Allman who settled in Olney, Illinois and fought in the Civil War. I know this because the John in Olney was the tax collector there in 1891, and my John was already dead by that time!

In zwei Kistchen spriessen Sommerblumensetzlinge.
Thanks for your help, Becky
My grandfather Hans Herman Lutz was born somewhere in Switzerland July 17, 1875. He moved to New York City, USA in 1896. I'm having a hard time finding the exact town in Switzerland he was born. Any idea's where I should look. All the information on records here in America simply state he was born in Switzerland.
Looking for relatives of one Sophie Wilhelmina Braul, born about 1862, Canton Berne, Switzerland. Sophie married a Christian Schmid, born abt 1858 of Frutigen, Switzerland. Thay had a child named Sophie, born about 1896 and moved to London, England. A daughter Elizabeth Clara was born about 1897 and Rosina was born in 1899.

Rosina moved to Australia in the 1920's with a Frank Langlois, only to return in about 1930 to visit her ill or dying mother Sophie. Sophie Wilhelmina died in 1930. Rosina and her husband Frank Langlois returned to Australia in 1933 with their 3 children, Frank, Rose and Kenneth.

I am seeking assistance from anyone who may be related to either Christian Schmid or Sophie Braul. It is possible that Sophie's mother was Swiss or German and her father was an American, however this is unconfirmed.

Anyone with good access to Swiss records or who could assist in anyway it would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Michael Langlois
grandson of Rosina Schmid and great grandson of Christian Schmid and Sophie Braul.

Christian SCHMID dob 1858; Sophie W Brand dob 1862

We are searching for the ancestry records for both Christian Schmid, born Frutigen abt 1858 and Sophie W Brand born about 1862, Canton Berne, Switzerland.

Both Christian and Sophie married and travelled to London in the late 1890s. They had a child named Sophie W who was born in Switzerland about 1896. In London they had two further children, Elizabeth Clara (born abt 1896) and Rosena 1899. The 1901 UK census shows the family residing in the Borough of Westminster,London. Christian is 43, Sophie is 39 and the children are Sophie 5, Elizabeth Clara 3 and Rosena 1. The ancestry.com site incorrectly spells Rosena as 'Dosena'.

Rosena Schmid is my grandmother on my father's side. I have located her birth records in the UK records as well as those of Elizabeth Clara Schmid. Unfortunately I am unable to locate any death records for both Sophie and Christian Schmid. The information I have received, and this has not been confirmed, is that Sophie (possible second christian name of Wilhelmine) was born at sea to a German mother and American father.

I have been unable to locate any records for both Christian and Sophie in Switzerland. It would be appreciated if any person who has access to any Swiss databases for births etc to provide me with any details of births for both in Switzerland, census records, marriage records etc. There appear to be many Christian Schmids in the town of Frutigen and these date back to the 1600s, however I have not been able to locate any link on Ancestry.com at this stage.

Hoping someone can assist.

Regards

Anyone in the Aarwangen area that can tell me how to get a hold of the local cemeteries? I'm assuming there's some there. I've tried searching the net with no luck. I've also tried Google maps to locate one on the aerials and also struck out.

I've had several generations of Gerber's live in that town so they've got to be around there somewhere.

Many thanks,

Todd Gerber

We will be in Bern October 5 and 6, 2007. My friend is searching for her mother's house in Bern which she left to come to America. Her Mother, Helen Burkhalter, was born in 1896, the daughter of Johan Fredrich Burkhalter and Elisa Wittwer, and by 1913, had 7-8 brothers and sisters.

Her mother had to walk by the baby eating statue on her way to school as a young child.

Does Bern have city directories where we might find this address for the Burkhalters or is anyone reading this able to look up the address, possibly in a Bern City Directory from about 1900?

Thank you for any information you can provide. Or let us know where we could go to look up this information.

We will be leaving the USA on Sunday, September 23, 2007.

Jeanne Stenerson
stenarch@aol.com
Stillwater, Minnesota, USA
I am trying to find information relating to my g-great-grandparents. They had 3 daughters, Jenny Marie, born Geneva 1849, Anna Amelie, born Geneva 1853 and Elise Marie born Plainpalais 1856, confirmed in Grossaffoltern, Bern in 1870. Elise had a daughter, Jenny Maria born in Paris in 1879. Jenny later married Paul Johnson in England and it is from this line that I am related. I have photocopies papers confirming this information. I believe there was a relative called Peter Lanterry, but have been unable to find anything here. Any help much appreciated.

I understand most records are in Bern, and that they are difficult to find and read --plus I don't speak German. Is it possible to find experienced, reliable person who could help me? Recommendations? Referrals? Is there an agency or other source that could help?

I have a record of births, marriage and deaths from the Bern archives, circa 1752-1800, that look like they were taken from church records and compiled into family groups. The strange thing is that in translating the months they are as follows:
Brachmonat
Christmonat
Weinmonat
Heumonat
Augstmonat
Can anyone tell me for sure what the months really are? The names of the six children we have accounted for are:
Arnold b. 1883, Marie Therese b. abt.1881, Therese 1893, Joh Marti, Andreas, Hans.

Arnold and Marie's first child Arnold was born in Schwarzenburg, Kanton Bern on February 28th, 1883. The three sons of Arnold Wälchli and Marie Burri went to Finland about 1903. The three daughters immigrated to the US in 1902. Arnold and his wife Marie Burri immigrated to the US a few years later. He died of the flu in 1818. Marie and Arnold are burried in the Yoe Cemetery in Yoe, Pennsylvania.

Does anyone out there know anything about this family. I do know Arnold Wälchli b.1855 had something to do with the Kornhauskeller at the end of the 1800's. The family story I heard which may or may not be true is that his partner ran off to Africa with the yearly collections and left this wealthy family penniless.

Need help !surnames-Bauer,Lang,Zimmerli,Keifer,Fehlman,Yeates,Meyer,Wunder,Sohgasse,Stiffengger,etc.

Surnames: Zimmerli, Hofer, Fehlman, Bauer, Lang, Keifer, Yeates, Stiffengger, Sohgasse, Hedlger, Meyer, Wunder
Classification: Query
Post Reply | Mark Unread Report Abuse Print Message
I was researching info on my great grandmother and came across a legal notice in the local paper in Lewis County,New York.
It is estate information that states my grandmother, Ida Margaretta Zimmerli Hofer is the executrix of the estate.
The person whose estate it is is Marianna Wunder and it lists numerous next of kin and heirs. I assume that would also make them next of kin to my Ida Margaretta Zimmerli Hofer!?
The paper is dated Feb. 24, 1921 and listed again March 3, 1921. It states that the last will and testament bears a date of May 29, 1913.
The next of kin an heirs are listed exactly as this:
Hans Land Fehlman
Frau Maria Bauer Lang
Ernest Lang Keifer
Walter Lang, Postbearnter
Mrs. Emmy Yeates
John Zimmerli
Miss Bertha Zimmerli
Augustus Zimmerli
Frau Stifenngger
Frau Meyer Sohgasse
Frau Hofer Zimmerli
Frau Hedlger, Bakermeisterd
Frau Hofer Gewindeschiebers
Arnold Zimmerli
Ernest Zimmerli
Fred Zimmerli
John Zimmerli
Wilheim Zimmerli
Walter Zimmerli
Jacob Zimmerli
Can anyone tell me more about the connection of these people to each other?
We believe that Ida Margaretta Zimmerli Hofer came to the US from Bern with her husband Augustus/August Hofer, they were weavers and associated with the apostolic Christian Church where he was I believe an elder in the church. Their daughter married a John W. Farney (my line).
I would so sincerely appreciate any suggestions or possible associations between these people.
-Charmaine Campany
Croghan, New York, Lewis County
cjcamp(at) northnet.org or
cjcamp (at) frontiernet.net
Obersteckholz Book

I have a picture of one page of the Obersteckholz “Burger Rodel, Bd II” book that list some vital records (births) of my ancestors, the Brauns. Is this parish or civil records? Has this book been microfilmed. I have not been able to locate the information in the LDS Family History Centers, but that is not saying that it is not there. I just do not know a microfilm number or how to find it. Thanks for any help David
