No. 66\tKNOXVILLE EAST TENNESSEENovember the 8th, 1820

It is herein certified that Benjamin Hawkins did on the 8th day of November 1820, purchase the lot R North West quarter of section numbered nine, in township numbered four, in Range numbered one, west of the meridian, in the County of which lot or quarter section is estimated as One Hundred and Sixty acres of land which has been sold to the said Benjamin Hawkins at the rate of three Dollars and fifty cents per acre amounting in the whole to Three(Five) Hundred and sixty dollars of which there has been paid agreeable to law to the Treasurer of East Tennessee, One Hundred and Forty dollars and __cents being the one fourth part of the purchase money for said Lot or Quarter Section. NOW, the remaining balance being Four Hundred and Twenty shall be paid to the Treasurer of East Tennessee at Knoxville at or before the end of ten years from this date with interest commencing on one third at the expiration of two years and one third at the end of four years and on one third at the end of six years; which interest is to be paid annually; the amount paid becomes forfeited if the said balance is then not paid but if it should be fully paid then the said Benjamin Hawkins or his assignee or legal representative shall be entitled to a Grant for the Lot or Quarter Section above described.

For Five Hundred Dollars value received I do assign all my right and title of the within land and quarter section to Thomas Garron and the said Thomas Garron is to pay the State of Tennessee the balance due her.

For Seven Hundred and twenty dollars value received, I assign the within of all my rights and title of the within land and quarter section to Aaron Matthews and the said A. Matthews is to pay the State the balance due. Given under my hand and seal this 16th day of November 1822. Signed: Thomas Garron (seal)

Received 23 March 1827 Four Hundred and fifteen dollars being the amount of remaining balance of principal due on this certificate after deducting 25%, the interest due remaining unpaid.

Received this 10th day of October 1826, Benjamin Hawkins by Aaron Matthews the sum of Ninety-five dollars and twenty cents being the amount of interest due on the South West Quarter of section numbered 9 of township numbered 4, range l, West of the meridian in the County of McMinn which interest is collected by virtue of an execution of No 66, issued and placed in my hands for collection, by the Treasurer of East Tennessee and fifty cents cost.

Transcriber Note: This is the Benjamin Hawkins that several researchers have named as the father of John Hawkins and Raleigh Hawkins who settled in DeKalb Co., Alabama before 1840.
