OBITUARY: for Bernhard Henry KRAMER (1820-1914) translated from the KRAMER German M.E. Church obituary written by Pastor John LAUER.
"KRAMER -- Bernhard Henry KRAMER was born April 12, 1820 in Wester Kappeln, Westphalia, Germany. He was united in marriage in 1845 to Katherine Margaret KRAMER, nee SCHAEFER, a widow with two small children. In 1846, they came to America and settled in St. Louis Missouri. They were united with the Church in Clayton County Iowa, in 1857, under the ministry of "Papa" VOSHOLL. In 1865, the family moved to Nebraska, settling in the southwest corner of Lancaster County. Here, they grew up with the surroundings. In fact, the community was to bear the name of Grandfather KRAMER, who donated land for the present village. He, further, donated sites for a church, a parsonage and a cemetery. The first campmeetings, too, were held in Grandfather's timber. The deceased was a friend of preachers. He served as Sunday School Superintendent, Class Leader and Trustee. He had been a reader of the "Christliche Apologete" since 1857, and of the "Haus and Herd" from the beginning. He was a generous supporter of the Orphanage and the Home of the Aged. He was highly respected throughout his community for his character. The deceased was almost 94 when, on January 6, 1914, he was called home. Mrs. Sophia BRAHMSTADT and Mrs. Eliza HOLLMANN were the only members of the immediate family to survive him. He is, further, survived by nineteen grandchildren, sixty-seven great grandchildren, and ten great great grandchildren. His pastor preached the sermon, using as his text Psalm 126 [26th?]. Rev. F. W. BINTZ related how he, as a youth, had been impressed by the confessions and prayers of the deceased.
