ALVIE RAYMOND CAVANAUGH, 74 year-old prominent farmer and stockman of Cross Plains, expired at his home a few miles southwest of Cross Plains about 6 a.m. Friday.(January 9, 1976) He had been ill for several months.

Funeral service was held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday from Higginbotham Funeral Chapel in Cross Plains.

Harold Ballard, minister of 12th and North Main Church of Christ in Cross Plains and Audie Moore, minister of Church of Christ in Eastland and former local minister, officiated the final rites. Burial was in the Cross Plains Cemetery.

Born June 24, 1901, in Cottonwood, he had lived all his life in the Cross Plains area. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Cross Plains.

He married the former Altha Jane Bond at Coleman December 16, 1928.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Morris Ray CAVANAUGH, of Cross Plains; three sisters: Minnie McGee and Mertie Jones both of Cross Plains, and Dora Beard of Taft; one brother, George CAVANAUGH of Abilene, a granddaughter, Elizabeth Jane and two step-grandchildren, Kim Yates and Jerry Yates.

A borther, Elmer and a sister, Kaola CAVANAUGH, preceded him in death.

Pallbearers were Nathan Foster, Dwayne Wilson, Glenn Payne, Ted Souder, James Lawrence and Troy Crockett
