I believe my gg-grandmother was a Vermeersch from Belgium. I've seen the last name spelled so many diferent ways! At any rate, her name was Melanie Vermeersch, born April 18, 1867, in Belgium, died September 1, 1947, in California. She married Henri Van Collie, of Belgium (or possibly France) who was born November 25, 1861, and died February 16, 1934, in Illinois. Together they had a daughter, Bertha Van Collie, born May 7, 1891, in Illinois, and died January 1971, also in Illinois. Do any of these names sound familiar? I do not know when they immigrated to this country, but I'd guess the late 1880's.
