J.H. Hill, a merchant of Burnside, Ky., was born in Clermont County, Ohio, August 28, 1854, and is a son of Charles and Phoebe (Hare) Hill. Charles Hill, also a native of Clermont County, Ohio, was born in 1822, and is now residing on a farm in his native State. He is a son of Jesse Hill, who was born in New Jersey. Phoebe (Hare) Hill was born in Clermont County, Ohio, and is a daughter of Jonas Hare, a native of Pennsylvania. J.H. Hill is the second of three living children, viz: Delilah, J.H. and Milton O. Mr. Hill was educated at the Normal University, Lebanon, Ohio. When young he learned telegraphy, at which he worked in connection with railroading eight years. In April, 1887, he opened a general store in Burnside, and is the leading merchant in the town. May 6, 1885, he married Mamie Reed, of Ohio, a daughter of H.M. and Louisa M. (Thirkield) Reed. One child has been born to them, O. Reed Hill. Mrs. Hill is a member of the Presbyterian Church. Mr. Hill affiliates with the Methodist Episcopal Church North, and is a member of the K. of H. Politically he is a Republican.
