"MURDER CHARGE IS REDUCED FOR PAIR
A first degree murder charge was reduced to second degree at the conclusion of a preliminary hearing here Monday for a Sand Springs couple.
The defendants, Frederick Broom, 27, and his wife, Kitty, 20, will be arraigned on September 1. Bond for each was set at $20,000.
They are accused of the stqbbing death of Herschel Goodwin, 45, of 614 East Oklahoma. Goodwin's body was found at his home August 14 after the fire department was called to send an ambulance to the location.
Assistant District Attorney Tony Burns said the state had failed to present sufficient evidence to show that the killing took place during a robbery.
The Broom couple was arrested in Tulsa, a few hours after the slaying."
