ARTHUR MATTHEWS
Arthur MATTHEWS, for many years a resident of Ringling, but of late, owner of a café in Waurika, died at his home there last Wednesday morning about 10:00. He was born at Wolf City, Texas January 16, 1886 and was in his 45th year at the time of his death. He had been in ill health for some time, but seemed to be improving when death came suddenly.
He was an active member of the Methodist Church for many years, but united with the Baptist Church only a few weeks ago. Funeral service was held at the Ringling Baptist Church Thursday afternoon, June 5, with REV. DEWEY C. SQUIRES speaking the rites. Interment was made in the I. O. O. F. cemetery.
JOE A. STORY runs for county superintendent
There is a long biographical article about Joe A. Story’s life from being born in Harris County, Texas November 15, 1900 moving to Oklahoma when he was five years old, attending school in Oklahoma, also two years in Hillsboro, Oregon. He was under age for the Great War, but he enlisted in the Navy July 9, 1918 and remained active until March 26, 1919. After the military service, he worked in a smelter in Henryetta, Oklahoma then worked in the oil fields. He met MISS EDNA HARWELL, a teacher in Jefferson County, and married after a courtship of two years. They have one child, a boy 2 years old. On August 10, 1922, while working on a drilling rig in the Fox oil field near Healdton, he had the misfortune of losing his right hand and forearm. My wife encouraged me to enter the teaching profession, and I taught my first school at North Center Point north of Ringling, from there we taught at union Hill, then I became superintendent of the Irving Consolidated school. After obtaining a B. A. at East Central College at Ada in 1928, he worked toward a master degree at A. & M. at Stillwater…

Funeral services were held in the family home at GRADY at 3:00 Thursday afternoon, June 12 for ARCHIE ACREE, age 59 years, 1 month. He died June 11 of sarcoma cancer from which he had been suffering for about a year. Mr. Acree was born in Gordon County, Georgia, May 11, 1871 and came to Indian Territory in the fall of 1897, settling near Gray where he reared his family and lived until death. He was married to ZELLA HAMILTON May 31, 1903, and to this union six children were born, 5 of whom are living: MRS. OTTO BOOTHE of Ardmore, MARVIN ACREE of Ringling, ARCHIE, WINSTON and MARY, all of whom are at home…He was a loving and devoted husband and father, and as he passed to the great beyond, it is comforting to known that he has fallen asleep in the arms of a just God. Interment was made in the GRADY cemetery with REV. H. G. WILSON of Ringling in charge of services.

ARCH ACREE
