Classification: Query
Surnames: DE VAUGELAS, DE VOUCALLA, DURDOFF, VADIMAS, TSIKONIS,
The name you are researching, VOUKALAS phonetically to DE VOUCALLA, my grandfather's line. I have just posted a message to the Greece Rootsweb list and then found your message. My family was from Delvinaki. I believe this is a small village, is it not?
This is what I sent to the list:
"I am researching the following names from Epirus, Greece:
DeVaugelas
DeVoucalla
Durdoff
Vadimas
Tsikonis
My DeVaugelas gg grandfather came to Greece in early 1800's from French
Corsica, changed his name to DeVoucalla. My Durdoff gg grandfather came
around the same time from Odessa, Russia; it is said that the family
originated in Greece but spent several generations in Odessa before
returning. These two men married Greek girls and their children Demetrios De
Voucalla and Anastacia Durdoff married.
I have almost nothing to go on, mostly wonderfully romantic stories.
